Royal Oak man struck, killed while trying to cross 13 Mile Road, police say

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A Royal Oak man was struck and killed by a 19-year-old driver while trying to cross the road outside of a crosswalk, police said.

The 84-year-old man was walking south across East 13 Mile Road near Campbell Road at 8:10 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 17), according to Royal Oak police.

Officials said the man was not in a crosswalk when the 19-year-old driver struck him.

The 84-year-old was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment, but died from his injuries, authorities said.

The driver and a passenger stayed at the scene and were not injured, according to police.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Officials said several lanes of 13 Mile Road were closed for a short time.
