SPRINGVALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Michigan man has been arrested after a woman caught him stealing marijuana plants from her property, police said.

A Michigan State Police trooper was called in September 2021 to a home in Springvale Township. The owner told officials that she received an alert from her surveillance system that someone was on her property.

When she reviewed the footage, she saw someone in a pickup truck pulling up and stealing marijuana plants, police said. She noted the registration plate and located the truck at a nearby repair facility, according to authorities.

Police said there was potting soil in the truck bed and on the bumper.

Kirk R. Gilders, 56, of Mesick, was identified as the owner of the truck. Police interviewed him, and an arrest warrant was authorized March 8.

He was arrested Saturday (April 2) at his home in Mesick, police said.

Gilders was arraigned Monday at 84th District Court in Wexford County for one count of trespassing and one count of larceny between $1,000 and $20,000.

He was given a $1,000 bond. The next court appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. April 19.
