A Michigan State Police trooper was injured in Detroit on Saturday night after a driver failed to move over for a three-car crash, lost control of his vehicle and pushed one of the crashed cars into the trooper.

Police hunting for 7-foot metal sasquatch
MARSHALL, MI -- Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers are investigating a larceny of a seven-foot-tall sasquatch lawn ornament. The sasquatch was taken from a property on West End Road near Heimbach Road in St. Joseph County’s Park Township, on or after March 22. The stolen sasquatch is made of sheet metal material, with a rusty brown color, and various sharp edges to detail the fur of the sasquatch, Michigan State Police said in a news release. The van was then observed turning around in the victim’s driveway and leaving the scene northbound toward Heimbach Road, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Marshall Post at 269-558-0500.

SAGINAW, MI — A Saginaw man is facing 10 criminal charges for allegedly circulating child pornography on Snapchat. On Sept. 15, the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began investigating a child porn complaint after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “Snapchat will report child porn if they suspect a user is uploading it or trading it,” said MSP Detective Jason Bledsoe. Under Michigan statute, for possession of child porn to be considered aggravated, it depicts “a prepubescent child, sadomasochistic abuse or bestiality, or includes a video or more than 100 images.” The charge is a 25-year felony. Those with information regarding possible child sexual exploitation are urged to report it to the CyberTipLine at www.missingkids.org/cybertipline.

DETROIT -- Members of the Michigan State Police Second District Special Investigation Section rescued an eight-year-old boy Saturday and arrested a man wanted in Pennsylvania for kidnapping. According to MSP, investigators with Pittsburgh Police Department contacted MSP for assistance in tracking down a kidnapping suspect believed to be in Michigan. As MSP began investigating the matter, detectives determined the suspect was at a location on Detroit’s west side. MSP executed a search warrant and were able to rescue the child while also taking the suspect into custody. The kidnapping suspect is being prepared for extradition to Pennsylvania.

Macho is trained in tracking, narcotics detection, article searches, obedience, and handler protection.

FLINT, MI -- A 22-year-old man was killed in a traffic crash early Wednesday morning on Dort Highway after he was hit by a vehicle and ejected from his truck, police said. The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, May 5 on South Dort Highway near Lapeer Road. An investigation has revealed the victim’s vehicle, a white pickup truck, was headed south on South Dort Highway when his truck was hit by a black Chevrolet Impala that was turning from westbound Lapeer Road onto southbound Dort Highway, according to a Flint Police Department news release. The victim, 22-year-old Isaac Emile Hancock, was ejected from the white pickup truck and pronounced deceased at the scene. Speed, alcohol and drugs are believed to be a factor in the fatal crash, police said.

Police responded at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, April 29 to a report of an assault in the 1000 block of Spruce Street at the Mount Morris Mobile Home Park in Genesee Township. The altercation occurred between him and a 29-year-old Burton man and a 33-year-old Mount Morris man, who tried to remove him from the home, police said. Both men were taken into custody at the scene and lodged at the Genesee County Jail. Genesee Township police were assisted by the Mount Morris City Police Department, along with paramedics from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

FLINT, MI -- Two people are dead after two separate crashes over the weekend in the city. A traffic crash involving a black Harley Davidson motorcycle occurred around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, May 2 on West Court Street near Ann Arbor Street. The initial investigation has revealed the motorcycle was headed east on West Court Street and failed to negotiate a corner. The motorcycle then went off the road into a grassy median, according to a Flint Police Department news release. Speed is believed to be a factor in this crash and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to police.

EATON RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A Lansing-area jail inmate who escaped more than a week ago was captured over the weekend after leading officers on two separate vehicle chases, police said. Michael McKerchie, 32, was captured Saturday in Eaton Rapids after he was first spotted at a convenience store before he fled, crashed his truck in a cemetery, fled on foot and stole another vehicle. McKerchie had escaped from the Ingham County jail on Nov. 12, when he dismantled his cell window, sneaked out of the jail, stole a truck and fled the area, police said. He was discovered missing the next day when jail staff found mattress padding shaped to make it appear that he was in his bunk. He will now face additional charges in Eaton County on top of those anticipated in Ingham County, police said.
