REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Surveillance cameras captured video of someone firing six assault rifle shots from a car as it sped past a home in Redford Township.
It happened Monday night (April 4) outside a home on Beech Daly between 6 Mile and 7 Mile roads.
The home has a series of high-definition cameras surrounding the property because of a recent break-in. Video shows a car driving past the home and unloading an assault rifle, firing six shots in total.
“My heart was racing,” Alicia Bonanno said. “I was hyperventilating. I was crying out here. It was extremely scary.”
“We heard five, six gunshots go off,” Donavan Richardson said.
The large-caliber rounds were sprayed indiscriminately around the neighborhood, police said. Surveillance cameras captured a bullet ricocheting off a neighbor’s driveway.
“It was foolish,” Richardson said. “It was childish.”
“It’s inexcusable, is what it is,” Bonanno said.
Bonanno’s 5-year-old son was sleeping upstairs in the home, she said. No injuries were reported.
Officials believe the shooter might have been aiming at the large skeleton in the front yard of the home. It’s a Halloween decoration that stays up year-round.
Redford Township police responded to the home after the couple called 911. No bullet holes were found, but they located shell casings.
“They did find six casings out in the road, of 7.62 ammo -- that’s AR, assault rifle ammo,” Richardson said.
He can be seen on video telling Bonanno to take deep breaths after she watched the surveillance footage and started to hyperventilate.
The couple plans to upgrade the security camera system, they said.
Police believe the shots were fired from a silver Ford Focus. Anyone with information is asked to call the Redford Police Department at 313-387-2500.
