Residents escape, cats rescued after house catches fire in Auburn Hills

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The residents of a house that caught fire Wednesday in Auburn Hills escaped, but firefighters had to go inside to rescue several cats that were trapped in the blaze.

Officials were called at 3:58 p.m. Wednesday (April 20) to a home in the 2100 block of Kircher Court.

When they arrived, firefighters found a home, a detached garage, and two vehicles on fire. The residents said everyone was out of the building, but seven cats were still inside, according to authorities.

Fire crews entered the home to extinguish the flames, which had spread to the first and second floors, as well as the attic, they said.

Several of the cats were rescued by firefighters inside the home, and others escaped and were found outside, officials said.

The residents were still searching for other cats that might have escaped, according to authorities.

No residents or firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
