Mother demands stricter gun laws after son’s tragic death in Pontiac shooting

Telethia Hunt has written letters to several lawmakers, elected officials, pleading for change

PONTIAC, Mich. – The mom of a Pontiac murder victim is speaking out about gun violence.

J’son Hunt-Cole, 27, was shot and killed at a strip mall on Huron Street on Jan. 14.

“Mr. Jackson took my son’s life with no remorse,” said Hunt-Cole’s mom, Telethia Hunt. “He did not know my son; my son did not know him.”

Jermaine Jackson was arrested and charged with his murder.

According to court records, Jackson is a convicted felon in connection to a car theft in 2018. In 2020, Jackson had a parole violation for possessing a weapon.

“Why was he let back out into society,” Hunt said. “Now look, I’ve lost my son due to the system failing us.”

Hunt has written letters to several lawmakers and elected officials, pleading for change.

“Due to the gun violence, this is what happens (and) it needs to stop,” Hunt said. “There needs to be stricter laws when it comes to being in possession of a gun.”

Jackson is due back in court for a preliminary exam on May 20.
