WNBA, youth sports facility could be built at former Uniroyal site in Detroit

DETROIT – The WNBA is returning to Detroit, and there’s more than just the team creating buzz.

The details are still being worked out, but a multi-sports complex is planned for the old Uniroyal site.

It will be more than the team’s practice facility. There’s a plan to use it for youth sports from courts to the river, which is getting strong support from community members.

The group goes back to the city council next week.

The WNBA’s name is still being decided, but the Shock is in the running.
