Garden City man charged after police chase ends in crash into Verizon store

The vehicle crashed into a Verizon store at the corner of Lewiston Avenue and Woodward Avenue in Ferndale

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Emad Rehman, 26, of Garden City, has been charged after allegedly fleeing police and crashing into a business in Ferndale.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald announced charges on Monday (April 27) against Rehman, including third-degree fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended license.

Police said the incident occurred on April 24 when Rehman was driving a white Tesla Model 3 and allegedly ran a red light in Royal Oak, prompting an officer to initiate a pursuit.

During the chase, Rehman is accused of weaving through traffic at high speeds before losing control of the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle then crashed into a Verizon store at the corner of Lewiston Avenue and Woodward Avenue in Ferndale.

Investigators said Rehman had a suspended driver’s license, outstanding warrants, and no insurance at the time of the crash.

Third-degree fleeing and eluding is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.

Driving with a suspended license is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.

Rehman’s charges are pending.
