Ann Arbor firefighters respond to massive house fire over weekend
ANN ARBOR – Members of the Ann Arbor Fire Department responded to a house fire on Saturday just after 8:30 a.m. According to a Facebook post by the department, the firefighters battled a blaze on Miller Ave. just east of M-14. A second alarm brought in fire departments from Pittsfield Township, Scio Township, Saline Area and Ann Arbor Township. Ann Arbor Police Department, Huron Valley Ambulance and Helping Area Response Teams provided assistance on the scene. This is the third second alarm structure fire in Ann Arbor in 2020.
Ann Arbor Fire Department hiring for fire recruit position
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ann Arbor Fire Department is looking to fill the open position of Fire Recruit. For the first time in 15 years, AAFD is hiring untrained applications to become firefighters and EMTs, according to a Facebook post. The Fire Recruit will attend fire academy and EMT classes; help with administrative and clerical duties; assist with safety education, community and recruitment events; and maintain departmental equipment, buildings and grounds, among other related duties. The position pays $18 per hour and comes with additional benefits including paid vacation time, sick days, a city matched 401(a) plan, tuition reimbursement and healthcare plans. ANN ARBOR – On a chilly Wednesday morning, members of the Ann Arbor Fire Department occupied a block on South University for the second day during intensive simulation training. “We’ve got access to businesses, restaurants, a bank, a first floor, second floor and a basement.
