DETROIT - Hot rods and customs were about to flock to Michigan for the state’s biggest show of its kind. Just days before Detroit’s 69th annual Autorama, organizers have cancelled the annual event due to COVID-19. Thousands of people come from all over the country to this event each year, held at the TCF Center (formerly Cobo Center) in Downtown Detroit. The show features hundreds and hundreds of custom show vehicles. Meantime, here’s a look at some of the coolest autos we saw at the Detroit Autorama in 2019.

The 69th annual Detroit Autorama scheduled to take place Friday, April 30 to Sunday, May 2 at the TCF Center has been canceled due to the recent rise in Michigan coronavirus cases, according to producer of the show, Peter Toundas, president and owner of Championship Auto Shows Inc.

DETROIT – The 68th annual Detroit Autorama is taking place this weekend at TCF Center. Detroit Autorama is known as America’s greatest hot rod show. Organizers of the event say it will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at TCF Center. Tickets are $21 each for adults and $8 each for children under 12 years of age. TCF Center is located at 1 Washington Boulevard in Detroit.

It had nothing to do with danger, but everything to do with the cars affiliation with Confederate flag imagery.For this years event, the 68th annual Autorama is giving the glitz and glam of Hollywood another shot by featuring cars from the Academy Award-winning movie. The silver-screen cars will join more than 800 hot rods, customs, trucks, and motorcycles from across the globe, including a showcase of the most significant hot rods of the 20th century and a lowrider invitational. Billed as Americas greatest hot rod show, Autorama will also bring back event favorites like chop shop demonstrations, rockabilly bands, and the Miss Autorama Retro Pinup Girl contest.
