New development plans in works for old Eloise hospital in Westland
WESTLAND, Mich. โ New plans are coming together for redevelopment of the old Eloise hospital property in Westland. The historic Eloise property was sold by Wayne County back in 2018 for just $1. John Hambrick, who purchased the property, pitched new plans to the Westland Planning Commission, which includes splitting the 16-acre property into five parcels to house a different use. History of EloiseThe Eloise began as the Wayne County Poorhouse, which opened in 1839 in the now defunct Nankin Township. Nankin was a part of Wayne County, originally named Bucklin Township, and it included what are now the cities of Livonia, Inkster, Dearborn, Redford, Wayne and Westland.
Westland City Hall reopens for the first time in months amid COVID-19 pandemic
WESTLAND, Mich. As Metro Detroit slowly works to get back to business, the city of Westland reopened City Hall for the first time in months. Westland Mayor Bill Wild was excited to see the city opened to the public again. The city building was sanitized and residents will notice all staff wearing masks along with other personal protective equipment in place. Westland city officials are continuing to evaluate the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
'Wild' campaign number apparently hacked, sends robocalls
WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. โ Campaign calls sent to Wayne County residents from the Bill Wild for Wayne County campaign office were apparently not authorized or created by the campaign. Campaign officials said the calls happened around 9 p.m. Saturday. "Our telephone line has apparently been hacked and is repeatedly re-dialing homes with a message about another candidate that is not from our campaign." Campaign officials said they are filing a formal complaint with local law enforcement. "We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused Wayne County residents," Garmo said.
