Officers tried to contact the suspect inside the apartment, but the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at an officer, leading to the officer firing their weapon toward the apartment.
The suspect reportedly refused to leave the apartment after the shooting. Police negotiators called the suspect, and he confirmed he had been struck but refused to leave the apartment.
The suspect eventually surrendered to police and was taken to a local hospital for treatement of his minor injuries.
“Our officers were placed in a life-threatening situation last night and responded with the training and restraint that keeps our community safe,” Chief Mike Guzowski said in a statement. “I am grateful this incident ended without further injury to our officers or residents, and I want to thank our force and our neighboring partners for their professionalism under extremely difficult circumstances.”
Police said there is no threat to the public, and the investigation is ongoing.
Details on the suspect were not released.
