VCU eliminated from NCAA tournament due to "COVID-19 protocols"

7 seed Oregon and No. 10 seed VCU in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament has been declared a no-contest with the Ducks advancing on to the second round because of COVID-19 issues within the VCU program. "The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee has declared the VCU-Oregon game scheduled for Saturday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum a no-contest because of COVID-19 protocols," the NCAA said in a statement. The cancellation marks a bitter end for VCU after the Rams made the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team following a 19-7 season. Although NCAA officials previously said a team could compete with just five players, officials determined in this case that that VCU's situation might "look like it's spreading," Norlander reported.

My AP Top 25 ballot: The Ohio State conundrum

Note: MLive’s Aaron McMann has a weekly vote in the AP Top 25 college football poll. Let the debate over whether to keep Ohio State in the first four begin. In my ballot this week, I dropped Ohio State one spot to No. It would be in the best of Ohio State to play as many games as it can, making a scheduled matchup with Michigan State on Saturday — and next week’s game against Michigan — crucial to help solidify the Buckeyes’ standing. Iowa State has clinched a spot in the Big 12 title game against either Oklahoma or Oklahoma State.
