Tigers’ 2 most productive offensive players? It’s Harold & Haase by a mile.
You know them as Harold and Haase. For as bad as this season has been, can you imagine the lineup without Harold Castro and Eric Haase? Don’t wonder: With H&H the Tigers would be hitting .220 with a .596 OPS (72 OPS+), falling even further into last place in the league’s offensive categories. “He’s even increased his power a little bit this season,” said Tigers manager A.J. The Tigers hope Harold and Haase are still producing next August.

mlive.comTigers reach deals with 7 players, but could face Spencer Turnbull in arbitration battle
LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Detroit Tigers reached deals with seven arbitration-eligible players but appear ready to “go to trial” with injured starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull. Players eligible for arbitration have spent between three and six years on an MLB active roster. In most cases, players and clubs reach a deal on their own without having to resort to arbitration. The Tigers and Turnbull are allowed to continue negotiating up until the arbitration hearing, but the Tigers and many MLB clubs are known for a “file and trial” policy. His 2023 salary will be similar or identical to his 2022 salary, meaning a victory in arbitration could ultimately be worth $1.55 million.
mlive.com12 notable Tigers’ splits from last year, and what they might mean for 2022
But they’re often interesting, and some of them could provide a clue to the Tigers’ 2022 season (if there is a 2022 season). The Tigers put up better numbers each time they faced a starting pitcher, culminating with a .791 OPS the third time through the order. Unlike Detroit hitters, who were roughly the same at home and on the road, Tigers’ pitchers were considerably worse away from Comerica. Tigers pitchers faced only 10 batters after throwing more than 100 pitches, so they rarely went more than three times through the batting order. So we’ll note that Tigers’ pitchers had better numbers when Jake Rogers, Eric Haase and Dustin Garneau were behind the plate.
mlive.comTigers arbitration projections: 13 players due $33.7 million
A year ago, the Detroit Tigers had nine arbitration-eligible players, and all nine of them were ultimately tendered contracts for 2022. The least-experienced players, with little service time, are paid the league minimum (or whatever the team chooses to offer). There is also a small group of Super Two eligible players with just under three years of service time who are granted arbitration status. After six years of service time, players can be free agents and are no longer under team control or subject to arbitration. If all 13 Tigers are tendered contracts for 2021, MLB Trade Rumors estimates they will earn $33.7 million.

Brandon Dixon: Dixon led the Tigers with 15 home runs this season and added 20 doubles in 117 games.
