KALAMAZOO, MI — OutFront Kalamazoo announced Thursday that Tracy Hall will step into the role of interim executive director following the recent resignation of Amy Hunter as executive director. In an April 7 news release, the organization said that it accepted Hunter’s resignation on Saturday, April 2. Hunter had served in the executive director role since December 2019. The nonprofit organization, which serves the region’s LGBTQ+ community, purchased the property in December for $25,000 from the Kalamazoo Public Housing Commission, according to Kalamazoo County property records. The organization expects to be ready to house its first residents in the space this spring, OutFront Kalamazoo executive director Amy Hunter told MLive/The Kalamazoo Gazette. Multiple community partners — including LISC Kalamazoo, The Irving S. Gilmore Foundation and Kalamazoo Community Foundation — worked with the Kalamazoo Public Housing Commission to renovate the property after the housing commission purchased it in 2020, Hunter said. The housing commission, she said, used grant funds to purchase the home in 2020.

LANSING, MI -- A 17-year-old Lansing teen has died following a shooting Monday afternoon in a parking lot on Hunters Ridge Dr. According to WILX-10, the Lansing Police Department received a call around 2:37 p.m. for reports of gunshots in the 3900 block of Hunter’s Ridge. The teen died at the hospital as a result of his wounds. The teen was transported to the hospital by an acquaintance following the shooting, but no suspect has been identified or arrested. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Lansing Police Department at 517-483-4600.

Teen hunter killed when run over by corn harvester near Caseville
CASEVILLE, Mich. – A 14-year-old deer hunter who possibly fell asleep in a farm field was killed when he was run over by a corn harvester in Michigan’s Thumb region, police said. Emergency workers were called about 9 a.m. Saturday to the cornfield in a rural area near the Huron County city of Caseville after a farm worker spotted the boy soon after accidentally driving over him, according to the county sheriff’s office. The boy from the nearby city of Elkton had been dropped off earlier for deer hunting at the field and might have fallen asleep, the sheriff’s office said. The farm worker wasn’t aware that anyone was in the field. The boy’s identity wasn’t immediately released by authorities and an autopsy was expected to be performed in the coming days.

Orphanage staff had expected this to happen, assuming that the mother giraffe had abandoned the baby for a reason, Arrie van Deventer, the orphanage's founder, told The Associated Press. “So we finally know that Jazz didn't have a bad giraffe mother that left him," the orphanage's statement said. The baby giraffe had arrived a few weeks ago, just days after birth. The giraffe was buried close to the orphanage, van Deventer said.
