Arson suspected in massive fire at Texas courthouse

The fire at the Mason County Courthouse in Mason, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Austin, started Thursday night. Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden said the flames could be seen from miles away.
Mason County PAWS planning no-kill animal shelter in Amber Township
AMBER TOWNSHIP, Mich. An organization in western Michigan has plans for an animal shelter where euthanasia is not an option. Mason County PAWS has finalized the purchase of a 12.5-acre property in Amber Township for a no-kill shelter, the Ludington Daily News reported. Jacklyn Osgood, the nonprofits president, said its a big step for the organization and for area's animal advocates. The most pressing need will be preparing the property east of Ludington for winter, and Mason County PAWS will need donations and volunteers in order to make that happen. The organizations board will meet soon to determine a timetable for when the shelter might open.
New 24-hour rainfall record set in West Michigan
A new state record for rainfall in a 24-hour span has been confirmed in West Michigan. The National Weather Service reported Tuesday that a new record was set back on July 20 in Mason County. A new record 24 hour rainfall amount has been set for the state of Michigan. Metro Detroit weather: Lower temperatures, humidity for stretch this week
DETROIT - We saw temperatures similar to Monday's numbers over the weekend, but they came with brutal humidity and soaking storms. We have an unconfirmed report of over 13 inches of rain in one day in Mason County, northeast of Ludington. We will get to enjoy low humidity and below-normal temperatures for a nice stretch early this week. Humidity will remain low. Highs will go back to the upper 80s, even touching 90 degrees, this weekend, with muggy air.
