This includes creating a full kitchen with stations, a walk-in freezer and storage space, office space, a teaching area and an elevator. “This is more than just the renovation of the Masonic Temple. The city purchased the former Masonic Temple, which was part of Vermeulen’s Furniture, for $100 in 2017. Since then, the city has spent roughly $2.1 million on renovations, including roof repair, new windows and securing the building, City Spokesman Aaron Dimick said. The city had planned to sell the Masonic Temple to Jackson School of the Arts, and turn the adjoining main Vermeulen’s Furniture building next door into the kitchen.

AEG Presents, which is the country’s second largest concert promoter behind Live Nation, has announced this decision as COVID-19 cases skyrocket across the country thanks to the Delta variant. Until then, AEG venues will implement a policy where concertgoers can show either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of show date. Once the policy is in full effect by October 1st, only those vaccinated will be allowed at AEG venues and festivals. Meantime, Live Nation announced last week it would allow music artists to make their own vaccination policies, according to Variety. At the start of this week, Michigan had 17 counties with COVID-19 transmission rates considered “high.” In just the last few days, that number jumped to 39.
