LANSING, MI -- Upgrades to traffic signals at a busy Lansing intersection will make the streets safer, officials said. The Michigan Department of Transportation is performing traffic signal upgrades from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the I-96 Business Loop in Lansing. The signals in question are located at the intersection of East Edgewood Boulevard and South Cedar Street. The work will require shutting off the traffic signals and closing access to Edgewood Boulevard, officials said. Once completed, the upgrades will provide better signal operation, and make the intersection safer for motorists, officials said.

They used jackhammers mounted to heavy machinery to chip away sections of the road, and the material fell onto Portage Road below, which was closed for the weekend work, he said. The eastbound lanes of the bridge over Portage Road were rebuilt in 2021. Dec. 22 is the target date of completion of the I-94 work including the full rebuild of the I-94 bridge over Portage Road, he said.

The Jackson City Council approved a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation for the work at it’s Tuesday, March 8 meeting. The project consists of realignment and traffic signal work along several intersections on the street. with the first being ,reconstruction along the West Avenue and Franklin Street intersection that includes traffic signal replacement, according to city documents. GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Drivers on a portion of northbound U.S. 131 will see a single-lane closure this week in Grand Rapids, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) reports. Sign work is scheduled for 6 a.m. Monday, March 7, through 6 a.m. Saturday, March 12, on northbound U.S. 131 from Franklin Street to Wealthy Street, MDOT said. The right lane will be closed during the work, MDOT said. Additionally, a southbound U.S. 131 lane closure is planned south of Grand Rapids, in Wyoming, from 54th Street to M-6, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, March 7, through Saturday, March 12. The right lane will be closed during construction, MDOT said.

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Construction will close one lane on U.S. 127 in the Jackson area for several months this year. The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing U.S. 127 in each direction over the Norfolk Southern Railroad near Vandercook Lake for bridge deck rebuilding. Work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. Monday, March 7, and is expected to be complete at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. Motorists can expect traffic backups and delays. Closing lanes during this type of work is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists, MDOT officials said.
