Juuse Saros made 31 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Nashville Predators beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 on Tuesday night. โIโve been feeling good,โ Saros said. With Nashville up 1-0 and on a power play, Saros denied Darren Helm on a breakaway. Nashville was 1-2 on the power play while Detroit came up empty in three power play opportunities. NHL ref's career over, 'make-up' calls in hockey spotlight
Tim Peel's career as an NHL referee is over after his voice was picked up by a TV microphone saying he wanted to call a penalty against the Nashville Predators. The league on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, announced that Peel no longer will be working NHL games now or in the future. Peel will โno longer will be working NHL games now or in the future," the league said. โWatch what happens at the end of games,โ said Carolina coach Rod BrindโAmour, a former center who played more than 1,600 NHL games. That level of experience made him a โsenior-level officialโ in the terms of the league's collective bargaining agreement with the NHL Officials Association.
Winter weather in Texas impacts pro, college sports
NHL games scheduled for Monday and Tuesday between the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators had already been scrapped. The shuffling of pro events came amid adjustments for several men's and women's college basketball games in Texas because of frigid temperatures and icy conditions for traveling. 12 Texas men's visit to ninth-ranked Oklahoma has been moved back a day to Thursday after originally getting bumped from Tuesday to Wednesday because of the weather. Two other womenโs games scheduled for Wednesday had also been called off: Texas at TCU and Texas Tech at Oklahoma. The American Athletic Conference men's game between Tulane and SMU in Dallas scheduled for Wednesday was postponed, with no makeup date announced.

The NHL didn't announce the postponement until just more than a half-hour before the scheduled start of the game. โI donโt know the status of that grid, but frankly, the Stars game is not critical infrastructure,โ Hallman told the DMN.

Florida Panthers off to 2nd-best start in franchise history
Floridaโs 6-1-2 start through nine games is the second-best in franchise history, topped only by the 6-0-3 record to open the 1996-97 season. โWe've been consistent in most games," Florida coach Joel Quenneville said. Starting poorly, however, has pretty much snuffed out some Panthers seasons before they even started. The five Florida teams that went to the playoffs โ 1995-96, 1996-97, 1999-2000, 2011-12 and 2015-16 โ averaged 12 standings points through the seasonโs first nine games. Thereโs obviously a long way to go, but the Panthers finally have the start they wanted.

Radulov, Pavelski 2 goals as Stars beat Preds 7-0 in opener

Five of Dallasโ goals came in the second, including three on the power play and an unassisted short-handed wrist shot by Esa Lindell. Pavelski and Kiviranta added power-play goals in the third period, those against Pekka Rinne, who entered after Saros allowed five goals on 20 shots. CAPTAIN HURTStars captain Jamie Benn was injured when his right leg buckled awkwardly after a collision with Viktor Arvidsson in the second period. Carolina-Nashville 1st NHL postponement since season started
The NHL did not specify which team prompted the postponement, though four Hurricanes players were added to the COVID-19 list Tuesday. The NHL already postponed the start of the Dallas Stars' season after six players and two staff members tested positive for the virus. Hurricanes players Warren Foegele, Jordan Martinook, Jaccob Slavin and Teuvo Teravainen joined captain Jordan Staal on the unavailable list because of COVID-19 protocols. The teams arenโt scheduled to play again in Nashville until the end of the season with back-to-back games on May 7-8. Now the Predators, who gave players Tuesday off after the postponement, are scheduled to visit Dallas on Friday night for the Stars' season opener.
Blue Jackets hold on, defeat Red Wings 3-2 for their 1st win

Texier's wraparound goal 5:10 into the final period put the Blue Jackets ahead for the first time. The Red Wings pulled Greiss with a few minutes left to add an extra skater. He had 65 goals and 93 assists over his first three seasons with the Blue Jackets. Mikko Koivu has not made his Blue Jackets debut because the 37-year-old center, who had spent his entire career in Minnesota, had to miss a third straight game.

Red Wings will go without captain again this season

The Red Wings decided to go without a captain last season after Henrik Zetterberg retired. Of course, before Lidstrom assumed the role Steve Yzerman wore the "C" for the Red Wings from 1986 to 2006. If there is no captain, then the alternate captain assumes that responsibility. NHL teams are allowed to appoint a captain and up to two alternate captains for each game, or as in the case of the Red Wings three alternate captains and no captain.
