AP sources: Biden to pick Katherine Tai as top trade envoy
(AP Photo/Susan Walsh)WASHINGTON โ President-elect Joe Biden is set to nominate Katherine Tai to be the top U.S. trade envoy, according to two people familiar with his plans. Biden's selection of Tai, who is Asian American, reflects his promise to choose a diverse Cabinet that reflects the makeup of the country. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Tai earlier oversaw China trade enforcement for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, setting U.S. strategy in trade disputes with China. Bidenโs trade representative will inherit a trade war with China, put on pause by an interim trade pact in January that left many of the hardest issues unresolved and U.S. taxes remaining on $360 billion in Chinese imports. As the top trade staffer at Ways and Means, Tai handled negotiations last year with the Trump administration over a revamped North American trade deal.

Pelosi says agreement on revamped NAFTA imminent
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she wants to see Congress pass President Donald Trumps revamped North American free trade deal this year. In a news conference Thursday, the California Democrat said an agreement on the pact is imminent. The United States, Mexico and Canada last year agreed to replace the 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement with a new version designed to encourage more investment in factories and jobs in the U.S. But the so-called U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA, needs congressional approval. Democratic lawmakers have demanded changes designed to do more to protect workers and the environment and to make sure the deals provisions can be enforced. Pelosis upbeat comments suggest progress in negotiations between congressional Democrats and Trump officials at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

'Spider-Man: Far From Home' blows away box office expectations
Christian Petersen/Getty Images(CNN) - "Spider-Man: Far From Home" made an estimated $185 million at the North American box office over its six day holiday opening. The film was initially projected to make $125 million from Tuesday through Sunday, according to Sony, which co-produced the superhero film with Marvel Studios. June was a particularly rough month at the domestic box office with multiple sequels, including "Men In Black: International," "Dark Phoenix" and "Toy Story 4" underperforming in recent weeks. The film likely had a sizable box office bump thanks to it being the follow up to "Avengers: Endgame," which shattered box office records in April. The big opening for "Far From Home" solidifies two important things going forward for the superhero genre and Marvel, Robbins said.
