They won their 21st consecutive game of the season in a 3-1 victory over the Dallas Stars that day, then won a 23rd consecutive home game on Feb. 19, 2012 to break the Boston Bruins’ consecutive home game wins record that spanned two seasons in 1929-30. The Red Wings went on to extend their impressive playoff streak record that season to 21 consecutive. The Nashville Predators, however, defeated the Red Wings in the opening round in five games. Ann Arbor student breaks US high school record for indoor mile run
ANN ARBOR, Mich – Only 12 high school athletes have broken the four-minute barrier for the indoor mile run record. But, on Sunday, Ann Arbor high school student Hobbs Kessler finished the run with 3:57.66 at the American Track League -- a new national prep record. A student at Skyline High School, Hobbs beat the previous record of 3:57.81 set by Drew Hunter in 2016, according to the USA Track & Field. Storms rip through Chicago area, with temperatures set to drop to 30s and 40s after record November heat wave
There has never been so long a stretch of 70-plus-degree days so late in the year since the weather service began record keeping in the city in 1871, according to Todd Kluber, a meteorologist with the agency. Chicago breaks warm-weather records for November on Monday, as ‘heat wave’ set to last through Tuesday
In 1953 there had been five consecutive November days with a temperature higher than 70 degrees, and by notching six this year, that record was toppled. There also had been a long-standing late-season record of six consecutive days of 70 degrees or higher, from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, 1950. Monroe County sets new daily record for COVID-19
Monroe County set another daily record for new COVID-19 cases Saturday, with 123 cases confirmed that day. There are also 319 cases currently listed as “probable,” which are in addition to the confirmed cases. Of the confirmed local cases, 1,837 are considered to be recovered. The number of Monroe County deaths is now 45, which is one more than on Friday. More than 80 Muskegon-area runners on track to compete in cross-country state finals
The Michigan High School Athletic Association boys and girls cross country state finals are set for this Friday and Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. After Chicago matches record high for Wednesday, will the warm weather last?
It’s expected to be so unseasonably warm for so long that Chicago could match a nearly 70-year-old record and Rockford could mark five consecutive days with a temperature of 70 degrees or warmer in November for the first time. Chicago on Wednesday tied the record high temperature for Nov. 4 set in 1978, hitting 74 degrees at 3 p.m. at O’Hare International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.chicagotribune.com
Megaflashes -- 2 new lightning world records approved
A World Meteorological Organization (WMO) committee of experts has established two new world records for the longest reported distance and the longest reported duration for a single lightning flash in, respectively, Brazil and Argentina. The greatest duration for a single lightning flash is 16.73 seconds from a flash that developed continuously over northern Argentina on March 4, 2019. (WMO)These are extraordinary records from single lightning flash events. These new instruments include the Geostationary Lightning Mappers (GLMs) on the R-series Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES-16 and 17) that recorded the new lightning records, and their orbiting counterparts from Europe (the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) Lightning Imager) and China (FY-4 Lightning Mapping Imager).
