SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, MI -- St. Joseph Mercy is being recognized as a top healthcare system in the nation. Newsweek’s 2021 list of the World’s Best Hospitals named both St. Joseph Mercy’s Ann Arbor and Chelsea locations as top hospitals. Kids can sign up for free cooking, nutrition classes with St. Joe’s Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, MI -- Hands-on nutrition and cooking classes are available at no charge for anyone age 12 to 14. St. Joseph Mercy in Ann Arbor has 35 spots open for this Nutrition Buddies Research Program, a four-week virtual course from April to May for kids to explore science, nutrition, agriculture and leadership opportunities. Each participant will receive hands-on cooking instructions at home and a chance to create plant-based meals from scratch with St. Joe’s physicians, according to a news release. “By helping children establish healthy eating patterns, we empower them to live longer, healthier lives.”Participants will receive a free membership to the St. Joe’s Farm Share for two seasons. St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor will provide Farm Share produce boxes to 2021 Nutrition Buddies participants for two seasons. Help them enroll in a virtual nutrition and food course hosted by St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor. Through the program, participants will learn about science and agriculture, have hands-on cooking and nutrition instructions and will work with St. Joe’s physicians to create plant-based meals while at home. Teens in the Nutrition Buddies course will also receive a free two-season membership to the St. Joe’s Farm Share, which collaborates with 18 local farms to offer a variety of produce, according to a release. The organization’s Map the Meal Gap, 2016 report found that 13.6% of Washtenaw County residents face food insecurity, said the release.
St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor named within top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in US
ANN ARBOR, Mich – Fortune and IBM Watson Health have named St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor one of the 50 best cardiovascular hospitals in the United States. The ranking comes from the annual Fortune/IBM 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study, which highlights top-performing cardiovascular hospitals. It is the third year in a row that St. Joe’s has been recognized by the study, and the hospital’s eleventh year receiving the honor. “Our hospital consistently ranks among the best in the nation when it comes to caring for the cardiovascular needs of those we serve,” said Alonzo Lewis, president of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston in a release. St. Joe’s was also on Fortune and IBM Watson Health’s 100 Top Hospitals list earlier in the year.
