Sterling Heights family grateful for fire department’s life-saving visit

After a recent house fire, one Macomb County family is feeling extremely grateful for a visit from their fire department one year before.

1 killed, 2 injured in Sterling Heights house fire

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – One person died and two were injured in a house fire that happened around 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Haff Drive in Sterling Heights. When officers and firefighters arrived to the home it was fully engulfed in flames. The fire is being investigated by both the city’s police and fire departments. As of now the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Macomb County offers new COVID-19 vaccination site for seniors 60 and older

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Through a partnership with SMART, Macomb County is offering a new vaccination location in Sterling Heights. The vaccination site is at the Sterling Heights Senior Center on Utica Road, between Schoenherr and Van Dyke roads. It’s why the Macomb County Health Department partnered with SMART to help distribute the coronavirus vaccine. Macomb County executive Mark Hackel said the new site is currently dedicated to vaccinating Macomb County residents and workers who are 60-years-old and older. Utica Community Schools district says it is working to increase vaccine availability for staff

UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Community Schools (UCS) district said it is “leveraging partnerships” to increase the availability of vaccines to its staff while it moves toward more in-person instruction amid the coronavirus pandemic. Partnerships with the Sterling Heights Fire Department and Henry Ford Medical Center allow district staff additional opportunities to register to receive the vaccine, the district said in a news release Thursday. The district is also working with local pharmacies including Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Meijer and Kroger to increase availability of vaccines for staff. The remaining K-12 students are scheduled for an increase of in-person learning the week of March 15. Eligibility for district staff to receive COVID-19 vaccinations was opened on Jan. 11.

Sterling Heights police, firefighters surprise woman on her 18th birthday

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Sterling Heights police officers and firefighters surprised a woman for her 18th birthday, and the moment was caught on camera. Three police vehicles and a fire truck drove by the woman’s house with sirens and lights flashing. You can see footage of the moment, as well as her reaction, in the videos above and below.
