Toledo woman crashes through traffic barrier, plummets 24 feet into Monroe County water outlet
WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Toledo woman is seriously injured after she crashed her car through a traffic barrier and plummeted 24 feet into a Monroe County water outlet, deputies said. Officials said the 33-year-old woman was driving a blue Chevrolet Impala around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday (March 2) on northbound US 23. At some point when she was north of Sterns Road in Whiteford Township, the woman drove off the roadway to the west and into the median, police said. The Impala continued north and crashed into a traffic barrier over the Ottawa Lake Outlet, according to authorities. The car went through the barrier and plummeted 24 feet into the water outlet, deputies said.
Monroe County hit-and-run, armed robbery suspect arrested after police pursuit into Toledo
TOLEDO – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of crimes after a two-state police pursuit Saturday night. Just after 5 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy in Lambertville, just north of Toledo, was informed by a citizen of a damaged black Impala parked at a Rite Aid Pharmacy located near the intersection of Secor and Sterns roads. Deputies pursued the suspect southbound into Toledo, where they turned the pursuit over to the Toledo Police Department, who took the man into custody. He is currently lodged at the Lucas County Jail, pending extradition to Michigan for face charges of armed robbery, felonious assault and more. Retired fire chief, mother of 4 killed in multiple-car crash in Bedford Township
BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A retired fire chief from Bedford Township and a mother of four from Lambertville died in a multiple-car crash on Wednesday afternoon. The man is in critical condition and his wife is in stable condition, police said. Her four children were transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition, officials said. The driver of the third vehicle, a 61-year-old man from Lambertville, was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition. Officials say it is unknown if excessive speed, alcohol or intoxicating substances were a factor in the crash.
Driver killed in head-on crash after crossing center line in Bedford Township, police say
BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A driver was killed Tuesday in a head-on crash after he crossed the center line in Bedford Township, police said. The crash happened at 2:16 p.m. Tuesday on Sterns Road, west of Secor Road, according to Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone. Officials said James L. McGee, 77, of Toledo, Ohio, was driving a 2004 Buick Century east on Sterns Road. He turned left into a private driveway and got back onto Sterns Road, heading east, according to authorities. The Century crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a black 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that was heading west, police said.

The Monroe County Road Commission is working on emergency culvert repair between Secor and Summerfield. BEDFORD TOWNSHIP - Sterns Road between Secor Road and Summerfield Road will be closed as of this morning for an emergency repair, the Monroe County Road Commission reported. The closing is "until further notice" and is for emergency culvert work, the notice said. A detour will be posted using Secor Road to Smith Road to Douglas Road. Local residences, schools and emergency services will have access.
