St. Mary’s basketball fights back to earn D1 Breslin berth and 55-44 win over De La Salle
In his eighth season as Orchard Lake St. Mary’s head basketball coach, all he wanted to do was finally say he made it to the Breslin Center. He could finally celebrate St. Mary’s 55-44 win over De La Salle and the Eaglets first trip to the Breslin Center since 2006. De La Salle went on to win the state title. Luckily for St. Mary’s, McKenney scored 11 of St. Mary’s first quarter points, including three 3-pointers as De La Salle had a 17-13 lead heading into the second. “Our six seniors have done something at De La Salle that has never happened before,” Djokaj said.

That’s exactly what happened for Warren De La Salle boys basketball sophomore Phoenix Glassnor as he won the first Metro Detroit Athlete of the Week poll for the winter season. Collecting 1,505 votes in the fan poll, Glassnor 43.12 percent of the 3,490 total votes submitted. That put him well ahead of the 674 votes brought in by Hannah Glowzinski of Dearborn Divine Child girls basketball in second place.
