4 people shot in ‘targeted attack’ outside historic Detroit hotel
DETROIT – Four people were injured by gunfire in what police are calling a “targeted attack” outside Detroit’s Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. WDIV-TV in Detroit reports that three of the victims are in critical condition while a fourth is in temporary serious condition. The shooting occurred at the historic, nearly-100-year-old hotel located at 1114 Washington Boulevard at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. Detroit police say two vehicles pulled up near the hotel before several individuals exited the vehicle and began firing. Built in 1924 near the Detroit River, the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel is a 31-story, 453-room hotel with 65 exclusive luxury condominiums and penthouses on the top eight floors.
mlive.comBook Cadillac penthouse, most expensive listing in Detroits history, taken off market
A spectacular penthouse near the top of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel downtown never sold and was recently taken off the market. When it first listed in April 2019 for $4.9 million, it was the most expensive listing in Detroits history. Theres an antique corbel from the original Book Cadillac as well as a geometric, Art Deco light fixture over the dining room table. But the cost of nearly $1,000 per square foot, combined with the $2,961 per month HOA fees, proved too high for potential buyers. The unit last sold in 2016 for $1.2 million, though at the time it was unfinished.
