YPSILANTI, MI -- Ypsilanti’s colorful celebration of weird, wild and wonderful luminary art returned to the city’s downtown Friday night, bringing a parade, dance party and drag show to Washington Street. Like at FoolMoon, guests are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark or light-up costumes and make and carry glowing luminary puppets. YpsiGLOW returned from a one-year COVID hiatus in 2021, but 2022 marks the return of the downtown dance party and the luminary workshops at which participants learn how to create the glowing puppets used in the parade. Interactive art installations included a glowing galactic-themed botanical garden, a miniature maze and a luminary alien that mirrored guests’ dance moves. The Ypsilanti Community High School choir began the night’s onstage performances, and Boylesque Michigan performed a glowed-up drag show before DJ Nitro took the stage to lead the dance party.
