Michigan DNR pursuing concessionaires to run park businesses
LANSING, Mich. โ Michiganโs state parks, harbors and recreation areas are seeking entrepreneurs to run camp stores, boat rentals and other businesses as the coronavirus pandemic has spurred an increase in state park visitors. Lori Green, the concession and lease manager for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, told MLive.com that there are perks that come with operating a business within a state park or recreation area. Green said state park visitor numbers were higher this year then ever, which could be encouraging for state-park based enterprises. Most opportunities are seasonal, such as operating camp stores, bike or watercraft rentals, food trucks, and even a water park. An anomaly on the current list is the ski hill at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.
Experience drive-thru Halloween light show near Ann Arbor
Medical specialty camp for children with serious health challenges North Star Reach will host a Drive-Thru Halloween Glow & Lights Show this season. The drive through the camp will feature spook-tacular illuminated displays, a wooded wonderland and singing jack-o'-lanterns. Tickets are $25 per car and all proceeds benefit North Star Reach, which provides a free summer camp experience for families with children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. City Wants Family to Get Rid of Emotional Support Pig
Doctor's orders may not be enough to keep an emotional support pig with a Missouri family. Pickles has been living with the Buff family for more than a year. Debbie even got a note from her doctor recommending the family should be able to keep the pig. Festus has an ordinance banning livestock from living in the city. "Animals classified as livestock in this case a pig, or mini pig cannot be kept as pets, City Administrator Greg Camp told KMOV.
Hot rods roar through St. Clair Shores during Harper Charity Cruise
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. - The annual Harper Charity Cruise brought out plenty of hot rods to St. Clair Shores on Wednesday evening. The event benefits numerous charitable organizations, many of which help children in the community. Some organizations and activities that proceeds from the cruise assist include Special Needs Children's Day at the Ice Show, the Special Needs Children's Fishing Derby, scholarships for students, Leader Camp and special-needs children camp sponsorships, a project that distributes dictionaries to third grade students, the Michigan Kiwanis Foundation and the Kiwanis International Eliminate Neonatal Tetanus project. Books are also donated to the St. Clair Shores Children's Library, and money from the cruise helps supports the Christmas in August back-to-school shopping event for needy children. Royal Oak woman says man she briefly dated put GPS chip on her car to show up wherever she went
ROYAL OAK, Mich. - A Royal Oak woman said a man she dated for a short time put a hidden GPS chip on her car and was showing up everywhere she went around Metro Detroit. The woman told police wherever she went, Camp would appear. "It was very unnerving for her," Royal Oak police Lt. Keith Spencer said. The woman went to Royal Oak police asking for help. Police said Camp would appear where the woman went time and time again -- not just in Royal Oak, but all over Metro Detroit.
