4Warn Weather – After a stretch of chilly May weather, Southeast Michigan is finally about to get a taste of summer.
Temperatures will climb steadily through the weekend and into next week, with highs nearing 80 degrees Saturday and Sunday before potentially pushing into the upper 80s by Monday and Tuesday.
When Metro Detroit climbs past 82 degrees, it will mark the warmest temperatures seen since early October.
Thursday evening stays quiet and cool with clearing skies and temperatures falling through the 50s and into the 40s overnight.
Some rural spots, mainly in the Thumb, could briefly dip into the upper 30s by Friday morning.
Friday looks like one of the better outdoor days of the stretch. Expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs near 70 degrees and a light breeze developing during the afternoon.
It should be comfortable for lunch outdoors, evening walks, patio dining, and the start of the Tigers-Blue Jays series at Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit.
Evening temperatures should remain mild compared to recent nights.
The warmer air really builds in for Saturday.
Highs are expected to climb into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees with increasing humidity and a chance for showers and thunderstorms developing later in the day.
Right now, the best chance for rain on Saturday appears to be from late morning into the afternoon and evening.
That does not mean it will rain all day. Many communities will likely still see dry periods, but people with graduation parties, cookouts, youth sports, gardening plans, or lawn work should keep an eye on the radar and have a backup indoor option ready.
A few thunderstorms could become briefly strong depending on how much sunshine develops and how the atmosphere recovers after any morning rain showers.
The overall severe weather threat remains low for now, but downpours are possible.
Sunday
Sunday, which includes Flower Day activities across Metro Detroit, currently looks warmer but somewhat less stormy overall.
Highs should reach the mid- to upper 70s, with some spots near 80 degrees if sunshine holds longer.
Most of Sunday daytime appears dry for many areas, especially during the morning and midday hours.
A few scattered showers may develop later in the afternoon or evening.
That means many people heading to Flower Day, gardening centers, brunches, parks or the Tigers game should still have decent weather for outdoor plans, though carrying a small umbrella would not be a bad idea.
The warmth intensifies even more early next week.
Workweek
Monday could approach 90 degrees in parts of Southeast Michigan, with increasing humidity making it feel muggy and more like summer.
Tuesday stays very warm and breezy with highs still in the 80s before additional showers and thunderstorms become more likely later Tuesday into Wednesday.
The warmer weather will likely lead to packed parks and a surge in outdoor activity across Metro Detroit after weeks of cooler temperatures.
People spending extended time outdoors this weekend and early next week should consider sunscreen, sunglasses, and lightweight and light-colored clothing during the warmest part of the day.
It will also be important to stay hydrated while doing yard work, planting flowers, or attending outdoor events.
For those trying to mow the lawn, tackle landscaping projects, or wash the car, Friday looks like the safest dry window, while Sunday morning may offer another opportunity before isolated showers return later in the day.
