After most of the region, saw some rain showers, and some dry weather throughout the start of the weekend on Saturday, the rain has increased in coverage overnight Saturday night, early on Sunday morning, and there are indications that portions of the region could see some heavy rainfall as we work throughout the day on Sunday.
An area of low pressure will work north and east slowly into the region as we work throughout our Sunday. As moisture works into the region, rainfall rates will be higher than normal throughout the morning hours, into the early afternoon. This will lead to the potential for flooding, from the heavy rainfall over portions of the region. A Flood Watch has been issued for most of Southeastern Michigan until 5:00 PM Sunday. Most places will see 1 to 2 inches of rain through early Sunday afternoon, and there could be some places that see in excess of 3 inches of rain before the system winds down late Sunday afternoon and into Sunday evening.
Once the low pressure system works through the region, we will decrease the cloud cover as we go through the evening of the overnight hours tonight. Expect mainly clear skies overnight tonight into early on Monday morning. Overnight lows dropping into the upper 50s to low to mid 60s for most everybody.
High pressure will move into the region for the start of next week, so expect plenty of Sunshine Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures warming into the low 80s to start the week, then into the mid 80s by the time we get to the middle of next week.
Our next chance for showers and thunderstorms won’t roll in until the second half of next week. Expect a chance of showers and thunderstorms with another frontal boundary rolling through on Thursday, and we will keep the chance of rain showers into the forecast looking ahead to the end of the week on Friday. High temperatures were remaining into the 80s looking ahead into the end of next week.
