Over the years, the City of Detroit has been on the kind of national list a city doesn’t want to be on, but Monday night, Time Magazine is naming Detroit one of the World’s Greatest Places to visit this year. The city made Time Magazine’s “World’s 50 Greatest Places” list, which ranked the top 50 international destinations to explore.

Detroit’s convention hall, formerly known as Cobo Hall until 2019 when it was renamed the TCF Center, is getting another new name after the TCF and Huntington merger, which created Huntington National Bank.

DETROIT – Huntington Bancshares Incorporated -- the parent company of Huntington Bank -- and TCF Financial Corporation -- the parent company of TCF National Bank -- announced Sunday the companies would combine in an all-stock merger, with a total market value of about $22 billion. The company said it will have two headquarters, one in Detroit and one in Columbus, Ohio. The Detroit headquarters will employee at least 800 people, about three times more than TCF had planned. Columbus will remain the headquarters for the holding company and the consumer bank. With the removal of the TCF branding, the TCF Center -- recently renamed in late 2019 -- will be renamed the Huntington Center.

Ever since the last debate, many people have been wondering about the impact of Sen. Kamala Harris' criticism of Joe Biden's civil rights record. The top-tier candidates made their case with attendees of the NCAA Convention. The candidates who got the most applause and buzz: Harris and Biden. Biden appeared to have slipped the label pinned on him by Harris for his early record on busing, at least among the attendees of the NAACP Convention.

The expectations started out high Sunday morning with popular gospel artist and Detroit native Kierra Kiki Sheard opening things up at the 110th NAACP National Convention Breakfast. For us to have it and host it in Detroit means a lot, said Derrick Boles, with Idaho NAACP. This year's theme, "When We Fight, We Win" aims to promote solutions to current problems like police brutality, racism, #LivingWhileBlack, voter suppression, partisan gerrymandering, sexual violence and mental health in the black community.
