Durham report takeaways: a 'seriously flawed' Russia investigation and its lasting impact on the FBI
A 306-page report by Justice Department special counsel John Durham is refocusing negative attention on one of the most politically significant investigations in FBI history: the probe into whether Donald Trumpโs 2016 presidential campaign was colluding with Russia to tip the outcome of the election.
Durham remains special counsel overseeing Trump-Russia probe
FILE - This 2018 portrait released by the U.S. Department of Justice shows Connecticut's U.S. Attorney John Durham. But Durham, who was appointed in October by then-Attorney General William Barr as a special counsel to investigate the origins of the Trump-Russia probe, will remain in that capacity. That probe was inherited nearly a year later by special counsel Mueller, who ultimately did not find enough evidence to charge Trump or any of his associates with conspiring with Russia. A Justice Department inspector general report backed up that criticism but did not find evidence that mistakes in the surveillance applications and other problems with the probe were driven by partisan bias. A senior Justice Department official told the AP earlier this month that David Weiss, the U.S. attorney in Delaware, overseeing the federal tax probe involving Bidenโs son, Hunter Biden, will remain in place.

American idle: New Hampshire House holds drive-in session
In the afternoon, as word spread that supporters of President Donald Trump had breached security perimeters and entered the U.S. Capitol, the New Hampshire House passed a hastily drafted resolution condemning the violence. But after House Speaker Dick Hinch, R-Merrimack, died of COVID-19 a week after being sworn in during the Dec. 2 outdoor gathering, Republican House leaders scheduled a drive-in movie style session to elect his replacement and adopt rules for the next two years. The 24-member Senate also convened Wednesday, but in a fully remote session that wrapped up before the House even got going. House Democrats had pushed for the same, but Packard, R-Londonderry, said that wasnโt possible because the House hadnโt adopted rules to allow remote sessions. Several GOP House members tested positive for the virus after attending an indoor caucus meeting Nov. 20 where many attendees werenโt wearing masks.

The Latest: Biden campaign faults Warren's health care math
A top Biden presidential campaign deputy said Warren's plan understates the cost and overstates savings while obscuring the costs to the middle class. Kate Bedingfield on Friday dismissed Warren's idea of having employers transfer to the government almost all of the $8.8 trillion she estimates will be spent on private insurance for employees. Health care is perhaps the starkest policy difference between Warren and Biden. Tom Vilsack says Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren's increase in taxes on wealthy Americans to finance her health care proposal is unrealistic. Detailed in a 20-page online post, Warren's proposal relies on employers transferring to the government nearly all of what they currently spend on private health insurance for employees.
