Winners of Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge at Kettering University announced
FLINT, MI -- Kettering University hosted more than 60 middle school and high school vehicle design teams at Square One Education Network’s 15th Annual Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge this week. The event took place on Wednesday, May 18 at the Kettering University GM Mobility Research Center off North Chevrolet Avenue and Bluff Street. Square One is a Michigan-based nonprofit organization that develops talent for future workforces, according to a news release from the university. The IVD Challenge pitted the teams against each other in three separate competitions: Autonomous Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge, Mini Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge, and Full-Scale Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge. In the Autonomous Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge, students will be challenged to re-engineer a “Power Wheels Jeep” into an autonomous vehicle.

In three pools across the state, swimmers and divers competed in the MHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday, March 12. Spring Lake was third with 191 points, ahead of Grand Rapids Christian (187) and Pinckney (154). East Grand Rapids won with just two individual state championships. Charley Bayer defended his diving state title, claiming his second consecutive championship with 590.85 points. Sophomore Carter Kegle gave East Grand Rapids another title in the 500 freestyle (4:34.68).

FRASER, MI – A Michigan high school student allegedly brought a gun to school in a backpack on Monday, Oct. 4, WXYZ Detroit reports. A Fraser High School student allegedly brought a gun to school but didn’t make any specific threats against students, staff or the community, police said. The school was alerted by another student and worked with the Fraser Police Department to investigate, the report said. The student who allegedly had a gun in a backpack was arrested. A letter that went home to families Monday said that there is now additional police presence at the school, the report said.
