Mike Wenglikowski joins Saginaw District golf elite
Wenglikowski, 41, joined elite Saginaw District Golf Tournament company Sunday, claiming his third consecutive District title at Apple Mountain in Freeland. “I’m not as good as I was then, but I’m better than I have been recently,” Wenglikowski said. “Nick Krattiger has three kids, and I told him that it’s going to be tough for him,” Wenglikowski said. Only two other golfers have won three consecutive District titles, with Ron Stelter doing it twice. The 2023 Saginaw District is scheduled for The Sawmill, and Wenglikowski expects to go for his fourth consecutive championship.

After back-to-back semifinal runs in football, the Freeland boys basketball team added another semifinal to the resume after beating Cadillac, 67-47, in a Division 2 quarterfinal game Tuesday. Freeland lost both football semifinals, dropping a Division 5 semifinal game in 2020 to eventual state champion Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 49-14. The Falcons lost a Division 4 semifinal game in 2021 to eventual state champion Chelsea, 30-27. The loss to Chelsea still resonates with the basketball team, with seven of the nine seniors on the team also members of the football team.

Valley Lutheran (12-6): Valley Lutheran has steadily improved as the season has progressed as evidenced by a pair of good wins last week. After dropping a game to Nouvel, Hemlock also fell a day later to Valley Lutheran. Trump announced the agreement on Friday, following a three-way phone call he had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The three leaders also issued a brief six-paragraph joint statement, attesting to the deal. Bahrain’s foreign minister will attend the event.

He also mentioned Biden visiting Michigan Wednesday in Metro Detroit. Polling released by Local 4 has Biden plus five over Trump in Michigan, which is a one-point above the margin of error.

FREELAND, Mich. – President Donald Trump spoke at a campaign rally in Freeland on Thursday. His campaign stop comes just one day after Democratic candidate Joe Biden made a stop in the state. Before departing the White House Trump highlighted a surge in virus cases in Europe to contend that the United States is faring well. Trump has characterized the rallies as “peaceful protests” and White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said attendees were exercising their First Amendment rights. It was a similar situation in North Carolina, where Trump held a rally this week that drew a mostly mask-less crowd of thousands.

U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks in mid-Michigan on Thursday -- one day after former Vice President Joe Biden plans to visit the state. President Trump will speak in Freeland at 7 p.m. on Thursday at airport hangar Avflight Saginaw. The news of Trumps visit comes just after it was announced that former Vice President Joe Biden will also be visiting Michigan on Wednesday. Police: Man, 62, froze to death inside his mid-Michigan home
FREELAND, Mich. – A man found dead last week inside his mid-Michigan home froze to death inside the unheated mobile home, police said. Arnoul Jaros, 62, was emaciated but his cause of death was determined to be accidental hypothermia, Tittabawassee Township police said Monday. Officers and firefighters found Jaros' body “in a frozen state” when they forced their way into his home on Feb. 15, police said. Police said it had been at least two months since Jaros had been in contact with relatives, The Bay City Times reported. There was no electricity to the house and the temperature inside was at 25 degrees (minus 3.9 Celsius), police said in a news release.
