The Detroit Lions have selected the University of Missouri Tigers cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. with the No. 61 pick in the second round of the NFL draft.

The return of starting quarterback Connor Bazelak should give Missouri an edge Saturday in its season-opening home game against Central Michigan.

The Tigers had been ranked in 43 straight polls, dating to Nov. 5, 2017. Following Cam Newton's departure the Tigers spent much of the '11 season outside the Top 25, finishing 8-5 and unranked. POLL POINTSThis is the second straight week that one of college football's traditional powers has fallen from the rankings, with LSU following Oklahoma. 25 Southern California is the latest of the teams still waiting to start their seasons to re-enter the Top 25. Missouri's offense didn't show up against Vanderbilt, managing a season-low 293 total yards as quarterback Kelly Bryant and his receivers were out of sync the entire game. Dating to last season, Missouri's last 13 interceptions have led to touchdowns, including four that were directly returned for scores. Kentucky P Max Duffy ranks fourth in the nation with an average of 48.2 yards per punt, and the Wildcats' 45.3 net yards lead the nation.
