Detroit expands COVID vaccine eligibility to all residents 16 and older

Any Detroit resident age 16 or older can now call to schedule an appointment to be vaccinated at the TCF Center. Johnson & Johnson vaccine site opened at Northwest Activities Center 9-1 this Saturday. Chief Public Health Officer Denise Fair also announced that the Detroit Health Department has been informed it will receive its first allocation of Johnson and Johnson vaccine this week.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is planning to start a separate clinic at the Northwest Activities Center that will offer only the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Detroit Mayor Duggan discusses equity, new COVID vaccination site in State of the City address
DETROIT – Mayor Mike Duggan spent the first half of his annual State of the City address laying out the steps that have been taken to make sure Detroiters share in economic advancement. The other half of the address was about COVID-19 vaccine expansion. A new vaccination clinic will be opening this month at the Northwest Activities Center, which will have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Duggan was in hot water last week after he turned down 6,200 doses of the vaccine, suggesting it was not the best. Detroit rallied when the mayor and his team, early in the pandemic, called on the city to take all precautions to flatten the curve.

Parents of Detroit Youth Choir members anxiously watch final performance on 'AGT'
DETROIT - Tension, excitement and happy tears filled the room as more than 100 parents and friends packed the Northwest Activities Center for a watch party to support the Detroit Youth Choir on "America's Got Talent." The parents haven't seen their children in two months and their kids have kept what their performance numbers would be super secret. "My son won't tell me and I want to know," DYC parent Kyana Smith laughingly told us. "I'm proud of him, the choir, Mr. White and now they have a chance to win it all."
