Ann Arbor Public Schools postpones start of winter sports season
ANN ARBOR โ Superintendent of Ann Arbor Public Schools, Jeanice Kerr Swift, announced on Thursday that the winter sports season will be delayed until January due to concerns over COVID-19. โParticipation in indoor practices and competitions during a public health pandemic comes with a risk to the health and safety of those involved.โThe announcement comes two weeks after Swift urged the Michigan High School Athletic Association in a public letter to postpone the winter sports season. Since Swiftโs original letter on Oct. 30, new county and statewide cases have skyrocketed, breaking numerous one-day infection records. โDonโt wait for a call from the Health Department,โ Jimena Loveluck, health officer for Washtenaw County Health Department, said in a statement. Schools across Metro Detroit have begun to shift from in-person to remote learning due to the surge in new COVID-19 cases.
Michigan bowling alleys allowed to reopen
Bowling alleys across the state of Michigan are allowed to reopen for organized bowling under a new executive order from the governor. Bowling alleys were among the list of venues shuttered across the state for months due to the coronavirus. Some areas of the state already were allowed to have alleys operational. As of Thursday, all Michigan bowling alleys are now among the list of venues that may be open for the sole purpose of serving as a venue for organized sports.Gov. Bowling to return when PBA resumes season June 6
DETROIT The Professional Bowlers Association will resume its season June 6 with changes due to coronavirus (COVID-19). All tournaments will be played in Jupiter, Florida without an audience. Players will be distanced, and equipment will not be shared. We are so excited to be one of the first properties bringing live sports back to broadcast television, PBA CEO Colie Edison said. This dynamic series of events will showcase the immense talent of our elite bowlers to a wide audience and we look forward to welcoming new fans to the Professional Bowlers Association.
