Detroit family seeks justice for 63-year-old man shot, killed outside his home

Crime Stoppers offering up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest

DETROIT – A Detroit family continues its search for answers after a 63-year-old man was shot and killed last year.

Averil May was shot to death in front of his home on Stawell Avenue near Joy Road and Wyoming Avenue.

The shooting occurred on Sept. 20.

Investigators said May was parking his car when someone fired shots at him. On Monday, his family made a plea for anyone with information to come forward.

“Averil May was the greatest grandfather I could ever have. So, if you have any tips on his murder or anything, just come speak up,” said his grandson Bryce May.

“Everyone loved him. So this is really weird to deal with this. It’s weird to talk to you like this. I didn’t ever think that I would be up here speaking about my pops because somebody took his life,” said his daughter Juanita May.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,500 cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
