COVID outbreaks at Michigan schools infect 45 students, staff
School outbreaks were spread across three counties including Bay, Washtenaw and Wayne. In total, 45 students and staff tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, according to a state health department report published Monday, April 18. Michigan’s known outbreaks total has been declining for weeks, likely due to the reduced transmission of coronavirus, as well as eased reporting requirements. The largest school outbreaks reported over the last week involved seven students and staff, while the smallest involved four. They include:Canton High School in Wayne County, where seven students tested positive;Whitmore Lake Elementary School in Washtenaw County, where seven students and staff were infected;Eberwhite Elementary School in Ann Arbor, where six students tested positive;St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School in Ann Arbor, where six students and staff developed COVID;McAlear Sawden Elementary in Bay City, where five students tested positive;Thurston Elementary in Ann Arbor, where five students and staff got sick;Gallimore Elementary School in Canton Township, where five students tested positive;Mitchell Elementary School in Ann Arbor, where four students and staff were infected.
