Red Wingsโ Filip Zadina assigned to Grand Rapids for conditioning
The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned forward Filip Zadina to the Grand Rapids Griffins for conditioning. The Detroit Red Wings return to practice on Sunday following their bye week and the NHL All-Star Weekend. Zadina has not been the productive player the Red Wings thought they were getting when they drafted him sixth overall in 2018. To make room for Zadina on their 23-man roster, the Red Wings on Sunday assigned rookie Jonatan Berggren to the Griffins. New best friend gives Filip Zadina a boost

DETROIT โ A dreadful start followed by a broken leg left Filip Zadina needing a pick-me-up. Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said he will be in the lineup at some point this week. โI donโt think itโs that big of a deal or big pressure or something. I donโt think I was on the ice when we scored a goal, so it was kind of like I donโt know what was happening. I think when heโs skating, heโs got some offensive confidence.

mlive.comRed Wings waive Alex Nedeljkovic following conditioning stint with Griffins
Alex Nedeljkovic had a successful conditioning stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins, finding his rhythm and building some confidence after not having played for a month during a rough season. The Red Wings have opted to keep Magnus Hellberg as their backup to Ville Husso. Hellberg, 31, is 2-3-1 with a 2.81 goals-against average and .896 save percentage since being claimed off waivers on Nov. 22. Nedeljkovic hasnโt appeared in a game for the Red Wings since Dec. 8, a 5-1 loss at Florida. He has struggled during infrequent starts, going 2-4-2 with a 4.09 GAA and .880 save percentage.
mlive.comRed Wingsโ Derek Lalonde encouraged by progress, depth at midseason
DETROIT โ The Detroit Red Wings are only slightly ahead of last seasonโs pace as they hit the midway mark on Saturday. I think our guys understand that.โThe Red Wings were 18-17-5 through 40 games in 2021-22 but faltered the second half, going 14-23-5 their final 42 games. Then the Red Wings will decide whatโs next. In that case, Nedeljkovic would join the Red Wings at some point during their three-game trip to Colorado, Arizona and Vegas. A conditioning stint in Grand Rapids is possible, before which the Red Wings would need to activate him and clear a roster spot.
mlive.comRed Wings assign Soderblom to Grand Rapids as Bertuzzi, Zadina near return
The Red Wings assigned Soderblom to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday. They need a roster spot, eventually two, with the impending return of injured forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Filip Zadina. If the Red Wings opt to assign Zadina to Grand Rapids for conditioning (the Griffins play three games this week), they first need to activate him, needing a spot on their 23-man roster. He had a six-game points streak (three goals, three assists) from Dec. 14-31, after returning from an injury and playing two games in Grand Rapids. mlive.comRed Wingsโ Robby Fabbri returns, looking to give, take hits
DETROIT โ Robby Fabbri has been here before, having twice returned from ACL surgery, so he knows the drill. โGive a couple of hits, take a couple of hits,โ Fabbri said. It will be his first game since March 10, 2022, when he suffered a left ACL tear, after previously tearing his right ACL twice while playing for St. Louis. Fabbri will skate on a line with Pius Suter and Oskar Sundqvist and also play on the second power-play unit. โYouโve got to take that time; youโve got to make sure things are right,โ Fabbri said.

That is the approach Filip Zadina is taking when he returns to the Detroit Red Wings lineup, likely within a couple of weeks. โWhen I come back, I wonโt be thinking about what happened before, how many games I played,โ Zadina said. The first game of the season will be for me the game when I come back. mlive.comRed Wings shut out by Carolina; Dylan Larkin injures hand
DETROIT โ The Detroit Red Wings were shut out for the first time this season Tuesday in a 1-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at Little Caesars Arena. Dylan Larkin missed the third period after blocking a shot with his right hand late in the second period. The Red Wings (13-9-6) got a solid effort from Ville Husso (26 saves) but have dropped three in a row (0-2-1). The Red Wings pulled Husso for the extra skater with 2:43 remaining in regulation but couldnโt generate much pressure. The Red Wings picked up their play in the second period, generating more forecheck and spending more time on the offensive zone.
mlive.comRed Wingsโ Filip Zadina โout a whileโ after blocking shot
DETROIT โ The season has been a struggle so far for Filip Zadina, and now it appears the Detroit Red Wings forward will be out long-term. Coach Derek Lalonde said following Saturdayโs 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders that the team probably wonโt see Zadina for a while due to a lower-body injury. Zadina was hit in the right leg by a shot from Ryan Pulock with 5:19 to play in the third period. The Red Wings recalled center Austin Czarnik from the Grand Rapids Griffins before the game because they had no spare forwards. Lalonde said Czarnik will play Sunday at the New York Rangers (5 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit).
mlive.comRed Wingsโ Filip Zadina eager to show โIโm a good playerโ
DETROIT โ Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalondeโs decision to scratch Filip Zadina the first two games caught many by surprise, including the former sixth overall pick. โWell, obviously it was tough for a little bit but itโs the process in hockey,โ Zadina said. With Tyler Bertuzzi (hand injury, out 4-6 weeks) and Jakub Vrana (out tonight for personal reasons) out, the Red Wings have no extra forwards. โHe showed me a couple of videos of what Iโve done and itโs the little things I can get out of my game,โ Zadina said. โI meant it in the offseason when I want to give everyone a fresh start,โ Lalonde said. On both ends I want to be very cautious and have a true fresh start for everyone.โZadina, 22, had 10 goals and 14 assists in 74 games last season. โIf you want to score you got to get the shot quick and hit the net, hit the spots,โ Zadina said. โ(Iโm) looking at him when heโs shooting and trying to learn the details on how heโs shooting the puck.โMore: Red Wings eager to see what Jakub Vrana can do in full season
mlive.comRed Wings sign Filip Zadina to three-year deal
Filip Zadina has struggled thus far during his NHL career, but the Detroit Red Wings showed faith in the 22-year-old forward, signing him Friday to a three-year contract worth just under $5.5 million. Zadinaโs cap hit of $1.825 million is a substantial increase from last season, the final year of his entry-level contract, when his cap figure was $894,167. The sixth overall pick in 2018, Zadina has been slow to develop into the consistent goal-scorer the Red Wings hope he will become. This is a good time for the Detroit Red Wings to take a closer look at some of their younger players โ expand their ice time, move them up in the lineup, see what they do on special teams. So now you got 18 games left and some young guys, (due to) injuries, are needed in more prime roles. The Red Wings (25-31-7) host Tampa Bay (39-18-6) on Saturday (12:30, Bally Sports Detroit). mlive.comRed Wingsโ Robby Fabbri out for season with another ACL injury
DETROIT โ Robby Fabbri resurrected his career with the Detroit Red Wings following two major knee surgeries as a young forward with the St. Louis Blues. The Red Wings believe Fabbri tore his right anterior cruciate ligament during Thursdayโs 6-5 shootout loss to Minnesota and will miss the remainder of the season. Taro Hirose was recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins and joined the Red Wings for practice Friday. โI think Veleno played more than he normally has, Zadina played a lot of minutes. Seider blasted in a shot on the power play at 9:05 of the third period to put the Red Wings ahead 3-1. The Flyers answered just 44 seconds later when Scott Laughton knocked in a loose puck in the crease after a shot off the goal post.

He turned in possibly the best performance of his young NHL career on Wednesday, in the Detroit Red Wingsโ 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. mlive.comRed Wings to Filip Zadina: Be good defensively, go to the net while on top line
Filip Zadina might be getting his best opportunity to produce during what has been a tough season. Zadina skated on a line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond Tuesday in practice. โThereโs multiple guys that have an opportunity to get a spot on Larkinโs line and I wanted to see Filip Zadina today there,โ Blashill said. Heโs a small guy and heโs good at the net front. I also think he can play north and give them some skill, some ability to score around the net.
mlive.comCalvin Pickard steps up as Red Wings top Penguins in shootout
The Detroit Red Wings rebounded from their worst defensive performance of the season with a solid all-around effort on Friday. Lucas Raymond scored the lone goal of the shootout and Calvin Pickard made 36 saves regulation and overtime as the Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 at PPG Paints Arena. The Red Wings outshot the Penguins 4-1 in overtime, when Dylan Larkin had an excellent opportunity to win it, getting robbed by an outstanding glove save from Casey DeSmith. The Red Wings led 1-0 after a strong first period, getting a goal from Smith at 18:19. The Red Wings have a quick turnaround before hosting another top team with high-end offense when the Toronto Maple Leafs visit Little Caesars Arena on Saturday (7 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit).
mlive.comRed Wings seek ways to get Filip Zadina out of prolonged slump
DETROIT โ Sam Gagner can relate to the high expectations and pressure to produce that teammate Filip Zadina is feeling. Zadina showed promise in a small sample size soon after being drafted in 2018 by the Detroit Red Wings. Heโs getting shots off on the rush, heโs getting shots off in the slot area. Heโs finding his way to that slot area a lot.โZadina must find ways to get more pucks on net. โFive-on-five, thereโs one area of the ice where everything is scored now and thatโs in that slot,โ Blashill said.

It was the Red Wingsโ first power-play goal in seven games (they were 0 for 18 in their previous six).
mlive.comRed Wingsโ Filip Zadina: Just keep shooting and believing
Frustrated and angry about being a healthy scratch for the first time in his young career, Detroit Red Wings forward Filip Zadina is determined to find ways to make an impact. Shortly after coach Jeff Blashill announced that Zadina would return to the lineup tonight, the NHL postponed the Red Wingsโ game at Anaheim due to COVID-related issues with the Ducks. The Red Wingsโ next game is Saturday at Los Angeles (10:30 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit). The Red Wings turned in one of their better performances in a 6-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks. โI think heโs valued himself that way and certainly the hype was around his shooting,โ Blashill said.
mlive.comRed Wingsโ Filip Zadina should feel urgency after being scratched
The Detroit Red Wings envisioned Filip Zadina playing on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi in training camp before it quickly became apparent rookie Lucas Raymond was more effective there. Zadina has gone from first line to second line to third line to healthy scratch in a matter of months, not the trajectory the Red Wings envisioned their No. Whenever Zadina is back, he will feel more urgency to produce, knowing his spot in the lineup isnโt guaranteed. The Red Wings selected Zadina sixth overall, one spot before Vancouver took Michigan defenseman Quinn Hughes, who has quickly become a star. Heโs just got to stay with it.โMore: Several Red Wings stepped up in key win before road trip

That is more than any rookie Detroit Red Wings defenseman has accumulated after nine games, one more than Nicklas Lidstrom. There was little question coming into the season that Seider, the sixth overall pick in 2019, was NHL-ready. But you want to minimize those unforced errors, those plays that donโt need to happen, and maximize his positive plays.โThe Red Wings (4-3-2) are getting many positive plays from rookies. mlive.comRed Wings encouraged by Filip Zadina despite modest production
Filip Zadina hasnโt been as flashy or productive in the preseason as fellow top-10 pick Lucas Raymond, but the Detroit Red Wings have seen encouraging signs. โObviously, playing against good teams, good lineups, it was tougher, but I think we did a good job. Regardless of which line he is on, the Red Wings need more from Zadina than what he produced last season (six goals, 19 points in 49 games). Zadina among list of Red Wings cut from NHL roster
The Detroit Red Wings have trimmed their roster to 25 ahead of the season opener, which is Saturday against the Predators in Nashville, and Zadina's name was on the list. Guessing the Red Wings roster
He is coming off of a real bad year (6 goals, 13 assists, -14 rating in 71 games played) and the Red Wings have suddenly added Erne to the roster. The 23-year-old winger played 60 games with the Wings this past season (3 goals, 6 assists) -- is he in the mix? There's also Madison Bowey, who the Red Wings acquired through the Nick Jensen trade in February. Who is actually going to be playing for the Red Wings? Goalies:Jimmy HowardJonathan BernierCalvin PickardI put together a quick recap of the major Red Wings offseason moves here.
Will Zadina score 20 goals this season?
That's kind of where I'm at right now when it comes to the Red Wings and their top draft pick from last year. If Filip Zadina is in the lineup full-time this season (and everything to this point suggests he will be), then he needs to be scoring at least 20 goals as a rookie. He played nine games with the Red Wings this past season -- he scored 1 goal and 2 assists in that limited time. It's not unreasonable to demand 20 goals from him this season if he is playing a full-time role on the first or second line. By the way, in November last year I wrote this: "Andreas Athanasiou is on the Red Wings to score goals.
Red Wings 2019-20 season lineup: Here's what it could look like
Filip Zadina of the Detroit Red Wings skates against the Montreal Canadiens at Little Caesars Arena on February 26, 2019 in Detroit, Michigan. Regardless, here's a look at a few players in the system who could crack this Red Wings lineup:Jacob de la Rose (C, LW)Jacob de la Rose of the Detroit Red Wings on November 01, 2018 in Detroit, Michigan. Dennis Cholowski (D)Dennis Cholowski of the Detroit Red Wings skates against the Vancouver Canucks at Little Caesars Arena on November 06, 2018 in Detroit. Red Wings NHL draft preview: Who is best available at 6th overall?
The Detroit Red Wings own the 6th overall pick in this year's NHL draft. Remember, last year when Filip Zadina fell into Ken Holland's lap at 6th overall was the most exciting Red Wings draft ever. I always like to see teams in these positions take best overall, especially young rebuilding teams like the Red Wings. Short of putting together yet another mock draft -- see rant here -- forward Trevor Zegras could be the best option available for the Red Wings at 6th overall. Red Wings 2018 draft picks progress report
The Detroit Red Wings selected 10 players in seven rounds of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Ryan O'Reilly (RW)Ryan O'Reilly poses after being selected 98th overall by the Detroit Red Wings on June 23, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. So it's safe to assume the Red Wings have had them in their sights for a while. It was not an earth-shattering Red Wings debut, but he didn't exactly join the best situation in Detroit either.
