The Kent County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday, Aug. 20, that “Hank” of the department’s mounted unit passed away after a long battle with a bacterial disease. In a statement, the sheriff’s office said Hank fought hard against the disease but it was too much for his body’s immune system. Hank has been with Kent County since 2017, after coming from Asbury University in Lexington, Kentucky. A Georgia man is under arrest in Alabama, accused of stabbing his dog – Hank – nearly two dozen times. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the agency was notified Oct. 22 by the Lee County Animal Control that an injured dog had been located in the 20000 block of U.S. 280 in eastern Lee County. Sheriff’s officials said the dog sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest and stomach area, and bruising consistent with being beaten or kicked. According to charging documents against Childs, Hank is a mixed-breed dog who suffered 22 stab wounds. Childs was booked into the Lee County Jail Monday, and released the same day after posting $5,000 bond.

You know what happens if you give a dog a bone, but what if you give a gator a bagel? Paul Fortin of Daytona Beach said Hank, the 10-foot alligator that lives in his backyard, is his good friend. Hank has been living in Fortins backyard for three years, and Fortin said he didnt think twice when he uploaded a video of himself feeding Hank a bagel on Facebook. Police showed up at Fortins house to issue him a citation after the video surfaced.
