SALINE, MI - In a move toward neighborly solidarity, Saline Mayor Brian Marl is voicing his support of the protest by township and county officials of a private wastewater treatment plant in Lodi Township. The private plant project is near a pending housing development by Red Equities, LLC in the township that borders the northeast corner of Saline. Utilities, such as the wastewater plant, should not be provided by private entities, Marl said. Saline also opposed private utility developments in Lodi Township in 2007, Marl said. The new, private plant would have higher standards than the older public one that would be right next to it, Silverman said.

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — Safety improvements along Wagner Road between Liberty Road and Huron River Drive in Lodi and Scio Townships will cause road closures this summer, the Washtenaw County Road Commission announced. The safety improvements expected to begin in early-summer 2021 include: the replacement of two crossroad culverts on Wagner Road south of Liberty Road in Scio Township; construction of left-turn lanes on Wagner Road at Waters Road in Lodi Township; installation of a flashing beacon at the intersection of Wagner Road and Waters Road; and the installation of centerline corrugations and new pavement markings along the entire section of Wagner Road. The absence of the trees will accommodate proper drainage and a more modern road design, the road commission said. The South Wagner Road and W Waters Road intersection will be closed to all traffic. The Washtenaw County Road Commission will hold a virtual public information meeting on Monday, Feb. 22, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom.

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — Construction work on Zeeb Road between Pleasant Lake Road and Ellsworth Road in Lodi Township will close the road to traffic from May to August, the Washtenaw County Road Commission has announced. In 2019, Washtenaw County completed the first phase of Zeeb Road reconstruction between Ellsworth Road and Waters Road. The road commission plans to begin Phase 2 road work in May as road design is underway and permit applications are being prepared, officials said. When reconstruction is completed, the stretch of Zeeb Road will provide a paved connection to Pleasant Lake Road. During construction, Zeeb Road between Pleasant Lake Road and Ellsworth Road will be closed to through traffic and a detour will be posted, the county said.

According the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office there were 12 reported homicides in 2020 as of Dec. 28. The 12 homicides reported by the medical examiner’s office are more than the nine homicides local law enforcement agencies released information about in 2020. By our count, there were four homicides in Ypsilanti Township, two in Lodi Township and one in the city of Ypsilanti. On Dec. 17, police arrested Roger Lee Pierce Jr., 50, of Howell, in connection with the shooting death.

Police said the deputies spent several hours attempting to make contact to serve a search warrant Saturday before discovering the 51-year-old man’s body inside the home. Car shot multiple times in suspected road rage incident in Washtenaw County, police say
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Police are searching for a vehicle suspected to be involved in a road rage shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in Lodi Township. The suspect, driving what appears to be a 2006-2007 burgundy Chevrolet Impala with a damaged driver’s side mirror and a black front replacement bumper, fired multiple shots at the targeted vehicle, hitting it multiple times, police said. The occupants of the targeted vehicle were not injured, police said. Police released an image of the suspect vehicle in an effort to aid in locating it and are asking for assistance from the public. Motorcyclist dies in Washtenaw County crash
A motorcyclist died Oct. 1, 2019 in a crash in Lodi Township. (WDIV)LODI TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 75-year-old motorcyclist died Tuesday when he crashed in Lodi Township. Officials said Charles Arquette, of Carleton, was riding north on Ann Arbor-Saline Road at Textile Road when he crashed about 12:05 p.m. Authorities said Arquette was the only person involved in the crash. The crash is under investigation.
