University of Detroit Mercy Officials Broke Ground on Expansion Project Monday
(CBS Detroit) – Improvements are underway on McNichols and Livernois, an expansion project launching at the University of Detroit Mercy. The renovation project is expected to draw more economic opportunities to Detroit’s University District. Phase one includes the renovation and expansion of the Student Union, while phase two tackles the Fisher Administration Center and Reno Hall demolition. Roy McCalister, Detroit City Council Member, said, “You’re talking about a $16.5M to $55M in advancement in this fantastic university. Detroit police seek missing 27-year-old woman
DETROIT – Police are searching for a missing 27-year-old named Kiyana Alexander. She was last seen leaving her home in the 16500 block of Oakfield in Detroit at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. She is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs up to 170 pounds and has a medium brown complexion with long braids in a ponytail. Alexander was last seen wearing black leggings. Man injured in shooting near McNichols, Greenfield in Detroit
DETROIT – One man, listed in stable condition, was injured in a shooting Saturday night in the area of West McNichols and Greenfield roads, according to Detroit police. Police said the 39-year-old man was driving a gray Dodge Ram when someone inside a white truck fired shots. The victim drove himself to the hospital. This is an ongoing investigation. Detroit police release body camera footage of fatal officer-involved shooting
DETROIT – A protest prompted by an officer involved shooting attracted large crowds in Detroit Friday. According to Detroit Police Chief James Craig, officers were looking for a person involved in a Fourth of July shooting that left five people hurt and three others dead. Video of the shooting shown at the press conference showed Littleton was armed with a 25 caliber blue steel semi automatic pistol. He also noted that a group was present at the scene of the shooting and threw rocks and bottles at officers. I commend Chief Craig for moving so quickly to release the video publicly,” said Duggan in the statement.

It happened this afternoon at McNichols and San Juan just west of Livernois. Detroit Police Chief James Craig held a press conference and shared bodycamera footage of the incident. Much of the arena has already been gutted -- only a roof and supportive structure still remain. DTE Energy announced Thursday that electric rates will remain unchanged until 2022 amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Executive Order 2020-147 reiterates that individuals are required to wear a face covering whenever they are in an indoor public space.
$10,000 reward offered for information that leads to arrest in murder of Detroit DJ
DETROIT – A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in Detroit musician DJ Slick B’s murder. The DJ’s real name is Byron Gilbert. He was murdered Feb. 7 at around 7:30 p.m.Gilbert, 28, was shot by two unknown gunmen who robbed him. The shooting happened on west McNichols at Ilene Street on Detroit’s west side.
