MICHAEL FULMER

Former Tigers outfielder signs with Rangers

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman has signed with the Texas Rangers, The New York Post reported Friday. The Major League deal is worth $2 million but Grossman could earn several million more in incentives. Grossman, 33, signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Tigers before the 2021 season and was one of the most impactful players on manager A.J. Even amid his struggles, Grossman was exceptional against left-handed pitching and could have a platoon role with the Rangers. Grossman is one of four players who played for the Tigers last year to sign with a new team in the last week.

Longtime Tigers pitcher agrees to deal with Cubs

Longtime Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer has agreed to a deal with the Chicago Cubs, The Athletic reported Friday. Fulmer, who turns 30 next month, was traded to the Tigers from the New York Mets along with pitcher Luis Cessa in exchange for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. He went 3-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 39 1/3 innings for the Tigers last year before being traded to the Minnesota Twins at the deadline. Fulmer will be reunited with former Tigers catcher Tucker Barnhart in Chicago. Barnhart signed a two-year deal with the Cubs earlier this winter.

Tigers make 2 deals, but little progress for 2023: Takeaways from MLB trade deadline

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Detroit Tigers made two deals in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline. But it’s more likely rooted in a belief that the offseason is a better time than the trade deadline to address next year’s needs. The uncertainty surrounding Chafin’s contract in 2023 made it difficult for the Tigers to get full value in any trade. For days there was consternation among some fans that Avila and the Tigers would trade ace pitcher Tarik Skubal. The Tigers’ lack of action at the trade deadline can’t translate into to lack of action this winter.

Will today be last home game for two longtime Tigers?

“I understand that (Wednesday) is our last home game before the trade deadline, and that might be a little tough,” Fulmer said. Jimenez, 27, was signed by the Tigers as an undrafted free agent out of Puerto Rico in 2013. Unlike Fulmer, Jimenez will not be a free agent this winter and has one more year of team control in 2023. MLB trade deadline: Which Tigers could be targets?

The season isn’t even halfway over and we’re already talking about who the Detroit Tigers might sell off before the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 2. Since transitioning to a full-time relief role last season, he’s posted a 2.66 ERA in 98 innings, striking out 101. MINNEAPOLIS -- Be advised: The next time you see Detroit Tigers reliever Michael Fulmer on the mound, he might pull a wet rag out of his back pocket. Tigers reach deals with 7 players, but could face Spencer Turnbull in arbitration battle

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Detroit Tigers reached deals with seven arbitration-eligible players but appear ready to “go to trial” with injured starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull. Players eligible for arbitration have spent between three and six years on an MLB active roster. In most cases, players and clubs reach a deal on their own without having to resort to arbitration. The Tigers and Turnbull are allowed to continue negotiating up until the arbitration hearing, but the Tigers and many MLB clubs are known for a “file and trial” policy. His 2023 salary will be similar or identical to his 2022 salary, meaning a victory in arbitration could ultimately be worth $1.55 million.

Tigers mailbag: Verlander and Scherzer won’t be cheap. Is it worth pursuing them?

Although most of you liked my way-to-early 2022 lineup projection, the response was a bit more tepid when it came to my prediction for the Detroit Tigers’ 2022 pitching staff. You’re given the chance to reunite Scherzer and Verlander for two years with a club option for Year 3 at $25-$30 million for Scherzer and $20 million with incentives for Verlander. I think Verlander will probably seek a deal like that if he rejects Houston’s qualifying offer ($18.4 million). Some team will be thrilled to have him, but is that really the best investment for a team like the Tigers? So if owner Christopher Ilitch really wanted to spend $200 million (like the Tigers did in 2016), there’s nothing stopping him from doing so.

mlive.com

Tigers arbitration projections: 13 players due $33.7 million

A year ago, the Detroit Tigers had nine arbitration-eligible players, and all nine of them were ultimately tendered contracts for 2022. The least-experienced players, with little service time, are paid the league minimum (or whatever the team chooses to offer). There is also a small group of Super Two eligible players with just under three years of service time who are granted arbitration status. After six years of service time, players can be free agents and are no longer under team control or subject to arbitration. If all 13 Tigers are tendered contracts for 2021, MLB Trade Rumors estimates they will earn $33.7 million.
