Packers beat Lions in Detroit, clinch division title
DETROIT – Aaron Rodgers ran for a tiebreaking score in the third quarter and threw three touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions 31-24 Sunday and clinched the NFC North title. The Packers clinched the division with the win and Minnesota’s loss to Tampa Bay earlier in the day. The Packers’ win combined with the Saints’ loss in Philadelphia gives Green Bay the top seed in the NFC. The Lions (5-8) scored first and pulled into a tie late in the second quarter, but they simply couldn’t stop Rodgers. He also threw a 14-yard TD pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s back shoulder to put the Packers ahead 14-7 in the opening minute of the second quarter.

The Lions currently sit in mediocrity with a 3-3-1 record (but hey, no last place in the NFC North anymore. The Lions are currently ninth in the NFC standings, with Seattle and Minnesota holding down the last Wild Card spots at 6-2. Is that too much of a deficit for the Lions to overcome over their last nine games of the season with winnable games upcoming? Should the Lions be buyers and give up draft capital to address glaring needs, especially at running back with Kerryon Johnson likely out for the season?
