Man faces charges after bank robbery, crash on US-23 in Ann Arbor during police chase
ANN ARBOR โ Ken Kenyatta Wilson was charged on Friday with a slew of felonies by the Washtenaw County Prosecutorโs Office. Wilson fled police officers on Tuesday afternoon after robbing the Chase Bank at 4101 E. Ellsworth Road in Pittsfield Township, leading to a chase when the suspect crashed his vehicle in the area of US-23 and Washtenaw Ave. Wilson was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital with serious injuries, but was reported to be in stable condition. Investigations at both the bank and the crash site were conducted by detectives, Pittsfield officers and evidence technicians.
Washtenaw County receives extra 2,500 COVID vaccine doses for most vulnerable residents
(AP Photo/Michael Sohn, FILE)YPSILANTI, Mich. โ The Washtenaw County Health Department has announced a new pilot project as a result of receiving 2,500 additional doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The Health Department applied for the extra vaccines through the MDHHSโ Community Outreach COVID-19 Pilot Project. With the help of local partners and leaders, the Health Department will host several pop-ups in areas with high Social Vulnerability Index. AdPriority areas include the east side of Washtenaw County as well as areas of Ann Arbor and Pittsfield Township including the zip codes 48197, 48198, 48108, and 48105. โThe COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for all of us, but some areas and communities within Washtenaw County have been more severely impacted,โ health officer with Washtenaw County Health Department Jimena Loveluck said in a news release.
TheRide, Washtenaw County partner to provide shuttles to mass COVID vaccination site
ANN ARBOR โ The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) has partnered with the Washtenaw County Health Department to provide transportation to and from the countyโs mass COVID vaccination site at Eastern Michigan Universityโs Convocation Center. Service began on Wednesday and anyone who has a scheduled appointment at the EMU site can use the shuttles. โThis is an important step in making our mass vaccination site at EMU more accessible. Weโre thankful to the TheRide for working with us to provide transportation at no cost to riders,โ Loveluck said in a news release. The shuttles operate every 30 minutesThe shuttles are limited to 20 individuals per vehicle.
Newsweek names Ann Arbor hospitals among best in the world
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ On Wednesday, both University of Michigan Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor were named on Newsweekโs Worldโs Best Hospitals 2021 list. University of Michigan Hospital ranked 23 out of the top 200 hospitals in the world and was the only Michigan hospital to make the global shortlist. St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor to offer free cooking classes, food assistance to teens
St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor will provide Farm Share produce boxes to 2021 Nutrition Buddies participants for two seasons. Help them enroll in a virtual nutrition and food course hosted by St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor. Through the program, participants will learn about science and agriculture, have hands-on cooking and nutrition instructions and will work with St. Joeโs physicians to create plant-based meals while at home. Teens in the Nutrition Buddies course will also receive a free two-season membership to the St. Joeโs Farm Share, which collaborates with 18 local farms to offer a variety of produce, according to a release. The organizationโs Map the Meal Gap, 2016 report found that 13.6% of Washtenaw County residents face food insecurity, said the release.
St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor receives COVID-19 vaccines, begins vaccinations

ANN ARBOR โ The first shipment of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine arrived at four hospitals within the Mercy Health and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System on Thursday, including St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and Mercy Health Saint Maryโs in Grand Rapids and Mercy Health Muskegon. Mercy Health Muskegon received 1,950 doses while the other three hospitals received 975. All hospitals within Trinity Health Michigan have ultra-cold freezers capable of storing the vaccines. St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor named within top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in US
ANN ARBOR, Mich โ Fortune and IBM Watson Health have named St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor one of the 50 best cardiovascular hospitals in the United States. The ranking comes from the annual Fortune/IBM 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study, which highlights top-performing cardiovascular hospitals. It is the third year in a row that St. Joeโs has been recognized by the study, and the hospitalโs eleventh year receiving the honor. โOur hospital consistently ranks among the best in the nation when it comes to caring for the cardiovascular needs of those we serve,โ said Alonzo Lewis, president of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston in a release. ANN ARBOR, Mich. On Monday, the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System named Alonzo Lewis as the new president of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston hospitals. Saint Joseph Mercy is a division of Trinity Health. Lewis joined St. Joes in 2016. Having served in health systems operations since 1993, Lewis has worked for Trinity Health and Mercy Hospital in Detroit, among others. ANN ARBOR, Mich. Utilizing its 32,000-square foot factory space, Ann Arbor T-Shirt Company has made 25,000 face shields to help the community combat the COVID-19 virus. Co-owner of Ann Arbor T-shirt Company Jerry Kozak said while the COVID-19 pandemic started to impact other businesses, his business was secure. At that point, it became kind of a weird survivors guilt-thing where we were doing well but were in Ann Arbor, and the students got sent home before graduation, Kozak said emphasizing the impacts the pandemic had on Ann Arbor. The mouthguard company didnt have space or manpower to make the extra face shields, but Ann Arbor T-shirt Company did. Ann Arbor T-shirt Company is at 505 S. Maple Rd.
St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor treats COVID-19 patient with recovered individualโs donated plasma
ANN ARBOR โ Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has treated its first COVID-19 patient with plasma donated by a recovered individual at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital. Eleven patients at St. Joeโs were among the first to be registered nationally for the trial. Along with St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, three other health system member hospitals are participating in the program, including St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, St. Mary Mercy Livonia and Mercy Health Muskegon. In addition to the Mayo Clinicโs convalescent plasma program, St. Joeโs Ann Arbor is also participating in Gileadโs Remdesivir Expanded Access Program. Similar to the plasma program, only patients with life-threatening symptoms who require ventilator support are eligible for the remdesivir program.
