With Ford's announcement this week that it will be opening an e-v battery manufacturing plant in Marshall, it is now the sixth EV battery-related business in Michigan which now positions the state as one of the top three in the nation to produce next-generation autos.

New bill would allow Michigan bars to stay open until 4 a.m.
LANSING, Mich. โ Bars in big cities like New York, Chicago and Miami can stay open until 4 a.m. and a new bill would put Michigan bars and restaurants in line with that. Michigan Rep. Ryan Berman said extending closing hours for many bars and restaurants will help restaurants make up for lost time after the pandemic. READ: Michigan loosens COVID restrictions on restaurants -- here are all the detailsโWhat this bill does, is allow premises alcohol consumption, between the hours of 2-4 a.m. So if this bill passes, it doesnโt mean that all the restaurants, bars nightclubs are staying open until 4 a.m. automatically,โ Berman said. Nya Marshall, the owner of Ivyโs Kitchen and Cocktails in Detroit on Jefferson Avenue, said she has her doubts about staying open that late.

The Latest on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports around the world:___The National Football League and the Players Association announced Tuesday that eight players and 11 other personnel tested positive in the latest round of screening for COVID-19. Coach Dan Mullen, at least two assistants and more than two dozen players tested positive following a road trip to Texas A&M earlier this month. FIU has seen more than 30 players miss time this season because of positive coronavirus tests or a need to quarantine after potential exposure. ___French soccer club Lens says 11 players and seven staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus in the latest round of testing. Last Sundayโs game between Lens and Nantes was postponed after 11 Lens players and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

22 Marshall has scheduled a Nov. 7 home football game against Massachusetts, athletic director Mike Hamrick said Monday. ___The Carolina Panthers have closed their facility for the next two days after receiving an โunconfirmedโ positive coronavirus test Monday. ___Toledo basketball coach Tod Kowalczyk has tested positive for the coronavirus, the schoolโs athletic department said Monday. Kowalczyk tested positive on Sunday and will self-isolate for 10 days, he said in a statement. Four players and three staff tested positive last week, and Wasps hasn't trained since last Wednesday for its first appearance in the final since 2017.
Mid-Michigan man dies after confrontation with officers
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. A mid-Michigan man has died following a chase and confrontation with officers, police said. The 22-year-old Marshall man was driving toward officers when they opened fire on him early Saturday, the Battle Creek Police Department said. Two Battle Creek officers traveling in the same patrol vehicle attempted to stop a suspected drunken driver whose SUV was veering into oncoming lanes of traffic, police said. As officers walked toward the SUV, the man suddenly drove toward them, and the three officers shot into the vehicle, police said. Investigators said its unclear how many shots were fired, and whether any of the shots hit the man.
The Dallas Mavericks asked her to turn around a toxic culture
More than a year after being tapped as CEO of the embattled Dallas Mavericks, Cynthia Marshall says she has turned around the organization's culture and has greatly diversified its top ranks. Marshall was hired by owner Mark Cuban last year to transform the Mavericks after Sports Illustrated exposed a "corrosive workplace culture" at the organization. When Marshall was named CEO, none of the employees on the executive leadership team were women or people of color. She increased the diversity within the leadership team by promoting from within and recruiting from outside of the organization. Today, 50% of the executive leadership team are women and 47% are people of color.
