New albums always come out on Fridays, but on Oct. 21, it seems that everyone and their mother put out some new music.

A special 20th anniversary edition of J Dilla’s “Welcome 2 Detroit” was released to streaming services on Friday. First issued by BBE Music in February of 2001, “Welcome 2 Detroit” was James Dewitt Yancey aka Jay Dee’s first solo outing and the debut appearance of his new ‘J Dilla’ moniker. J Dilla is one of Detroit’s most iconic music names and is regarded as one of the best hip hop minds of his generation. The original project featured 16 tracks, while the anniversary edition includes 46, including demos and instrumentals. The 20th anniversary version is available on all major music streaming platforms.

This weeks Music Monday featured top twenty Billboard charting, multi-platinum album selling saxophonist Randy Scott. He has an interesting story on how he has been staying creative during the pandemic. Because of the pandemic, I ended up taking my iPhone and set it on a tripod with a 10-second timer, said Scott. Both of the rappers are billed on this song, but after a listen, it seems like Eminem is the one being featured on a Kid Cudi song. Eminem, at one point, goes off about people not wearing masks in public:“Half of us walking around like a zombie apocalypse. Other half are just p----- off, and don’t wanna wear a mask and they’re just scoffing. 1 rapper advocating for public health in the middle of a pandemic. We didn’t expect to see Eminem becoming a public health advocate on our 2020 bingo card, but we are here for it.

Music Monday is still doing things a little different these days. For Music Monday this week Tati chatted with singer/songwriter Trey Simon. Trey has a new single titled Speak to Me being released on June 22nd. Worship music and church has been such an anchor in my life, said Trey. It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 14 years since we’ve been blessed with a new album from these country queens, and it seems like they’re picking up right where they left off after the success of their hit song “Not Ready To Make Nice.”The Dixie Chicks have never been afraid to say what they think. Who can forget when they made those comments about President George W. Bush? The Dixie Chicks don’t hold anything back, and Maines has never sounded better ripping through the verses of the song. The album “Gaslighter” officially drops May 1, and until then, you can play the song “Gaslighter” over and over and over again.

“Break My Baby” is the tougher of the two, his voice haunting and harsh as his tone shifts throughout the song. The video features some dark aesthetics that blend well with the constant beat of the music. Juice WRLDEminem dropped a surprise album last week that includes a track featuring the late Juice WRLD, who died last month. It was the first track I heard off “Music To Be Murdered By,” and it was a collaboration that honestly surprised. The duo has traditionally included some jazz influence in their music and this song is not lacking.

DETROIT – Eminem dropped a surprise album, “Music To Be Murdered By," on Friday. The album includes songs featuring Juice WRLD, who died last month, as well as fellow Detroit rapper Royce Da 5′9″, Skyler Gray, Ed Sheeran and more. He repeatedly brings up people who have criticized his music and mentions the past multiple times. Darker topics also emerge when news clips reporting shootings across the country are played at the end of “Darkness,” one of the slower tracks.
