Detroit-area foundations, businesses announce $1M endowment to Detroit Youth Choir

The Detroit Youth Choir received a huge surprise during their homecoming celebration on Friday.

The Detroit Youth Choir, fresh off of an incredible run on "America's Got Talent," where they finished in second place, just short of a $1 million prize, were honored in Campus Martius on Friday afternoon.

Body found

A body was found Friday morning in a field south of Paul Avenue in Dearborn.

The body was found in the middle of the field south of Paul Avenue, east of the Southfield Freeway and north of a Home Depot situated along Ford Road. Police closed the northbound Southfield Freeway exit at Paul Avenue.


Handcuffed after recording police

A Detroit Water and Sewerage Department worker is accused of hitting a bicyclist while behind the wheel of a city truck Wednesday.

Roger Paz witnessed the incident and recorded the aftermath with his cellphone, and he said he was put in handcuffs for doing so. 

The incident happened on Vernor Highway near West Grand Boulevard in southwest Detroit. DWSD has launched an investigation into the incident.


Mosquito bites

With multiple cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) confirmed in Michigan, three of which are deadly cases, health officials are urging residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites this fall. 

The Oakland County Health Division said while no cases of EEE have been reported in Oakland County, the county does have five mosquito pools and a blood donor who tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).


Diabetes awareness

Norah Brumbaugh, of Grosse Pointe Park, was just 7-years-old when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

It was New Year's Eve of 2017. Her parents had become concerned after noticing certain symptoms.

"She was really, really thirsty all the time. She was losing weight, and she was eating so much. She was really, really hungry, so it didn't make sense why she was losing weight," said Monica Brumbaugh, Norah's mother.
