Treasury auctions are normally mundane affairs, but Wednesday's could make or break the stock market
Stock traders don't normally talk about bond auctions, but all this week the 10-year Treasury auction that will happen on Wednesday has been the main subject of conversation. "It's been a long time since stock traders have cared about bond auctions," Matt Maley from Miller Tabak told me. "The number one issue for the stock market now is bond yields." Much depends on the outcome of Wednesday's 10-year auction at 1 pm ET. Some stock bulls believe demand will be strong, particularly from overseas buyers like the Japanese, whose 10-year yield is at 0.1%.cnbc.com

University of Michigan alum awarded 2020 Nobel Prize
ANN ARBOR – University of Michigan alumnus Paul Milgrom was awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. Milgrom, who graduated in 1970 with a bachelor’s in mathematics, was recognized with the prestigious international award for his work in improving auction formats. Using auction theory, the duo designed new auction formats for buying and selling nonphysical goods like radio frequencies. The moment Milgrom found out he won the Nobel Prize was captured on his home security system. Analyzing auction formats can be challenging because bidders make unilateral, calculated decisions based on the value of what they are bidding on.
